Tarmac in Thatcham is seeking a reliable HGV Driver to join the National Road Planing (NRP) team. You'll travel nationally, stay away overnight when required, and be contracted to 40 hours per week with flexible patterns across days, evenings and nights.

Expect overtime at premium rates and weekend/bank holiday uplift; we value safety, collaboration and a proactive approach on site, with opportunities for development within CRH group.

Responsibilities

• Carry out regular checks on lorries and trailers; report defects promptly.
• Ensure journeys are completed safely, legally, and in line with regulations.
• Plan journeys to align with STGO Category 2 movement orders and site start times.
• Liaise with Planer Foreman and Operatives to ensure on-site teamwork.
• Transport planed materials from site to designated tipping locations.
• Record load details on transfer tickets and return to the office.
• Maintain communication with the Transport Manager and adhere to company procedures.

We are currently recruiting for an HGV Driver to join our National Road Planing (NRP) team. Although you will be based at our Thatcham office in Berkshire, this role requires flexibility as you will need to go where the work is, staying overnight if and when necessary. You will be expected to travel nationally.

You will be contracted to 40-hours per week, but your work pattern may vary. Some weeks you may be working days, other times evenings and sometimes nights and we need any prospective candidates to be accommodating to these types of working hours and be flexible; sometimes at short notice.

Prospective candidates are eligible for overtime, as and when it is available, which is paid at a premium and any weekend & bank holiday working also comes at a higher rate when available.

What You'll Be Doing

As our HGV Driver, you'll report into the Transport Manager and play a key role in day-to-day operations. Your responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out regular checks on lorries and trailers, reporting defects promptly to the fitter and office
• Ensuring all journeys are completed safely, legally and in line with driving regulations
• Planning journeys in accordance with STGO Category 2 movement orders to ensure planers arrive on site for the correct shift start times
• Liaising closely with the Planer Foreman and Operatives to ensure effective teamwork on site
• Transporting planed materials from site to designated tipping locations
• Accurately recording planing loads and tip details on load transfer tickets and returning these to the office
• Complying with company standards and procedures and maintaining regular communication with the NRP Transport Manager

This role involves day and night working, weekend working, and occasional staying away during the week, depending on operational requirements.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking a reliable and safety-focused HGV Driver who brings:

• Previous HGV driving experience
• A strong understanding of health and safety requirements
• A professional, team-focused approach to working on site and with colleagues

Experience of site work involving road planers would be beneficial, but it's not essential - what matters most is the right attitude and a commitment to safe, high-quality delivery.
