Job summary

Liverpool City Council is seeking an experienced HGV Driver Operative to support frontline waste services across Domestic, Recycling, Food Waste, Communal and Commercial Waste in Liverpool. You will drive heavy goods vehicles, perform checks, and help ensure timely collections in line with targets.

The role requires a Category C licence, Driver Qualification Card, and strong customer service skills. Working Monday to Friday, 6:30am–2:00pm, with an Irregular Hours Allowance of £755.36 per annum.

Qualifications

• Must hold Category C licence and Driver Qualification Card.
• Knowledge of health and safety in a driving/work environment.
• Previous HGV driving experience.
• Strong communication and ability to manage workload.

Responsibilities

• Drive and operate heavy goods vehicles in line with legislation and policies.
• Carry out daily waste collections and plan routes to maximise productivity.
• Perform vehicle checks and record activities with handheld devices.
• Assist with loading/unloading using safe manual handling and return receptacles to origin.

The role:

Join our team as an HGV Driver Operative to support the effective delivery of Liverpool's frontline waste services - Domestic, Recycling, Food Waste, Communal and Commercial Waste.

• The role of HGV Driver Operative involves driving and operating heavy goods vehicles and other vehicles in line with relevant legislation, company policies and procedures
• As a HGV Driver Operative you will be required to carry out daily waste collections efficiently, planning routes to maximise productivity, and ensuring waste is processed correctly through transfer stations and ensuring that all collections are completed in line with targets, including any requirement to return to properties
• In the role of HGV Driver Operative, you will be responsible for vehicle checks, using handheld equipment to record and document activities, adhere to health and safety procedures, and support both planned and reactive operational tasks
• As part of this role of HGV Driver Operative, you will be required to undertake operative functions presenting items for collection to the vehicle using appropriate tools and safe manual handling methods and where appropriate safely operate the vehicle mechanism for loading and emptying and return receptacles to place of origin once emptied

We’re looking for experienced HGV drivers who hold a Category C licence and a Driver Qualification Card, with knowledge of health and safety and previous HGV driving experience in a work environment. Strong communication skills, the ability to manage your workload, and a proactive approach to customer service are essential.

Please note this is a HGV Driver Operative tole and you may be required to undertake both HGV Driving duties and Operative duties; this is not solely a driving position.

Working Monday to Friday, 6:30am to 2:00pm, this role attracts an Irregular Hours Allowance of £755.36 per annum.
