Job summary

Enva is seeking a Driver/Loader to collect and transport waste across Northern Ireland, based in Toomebridge. You will drive company vehicles, load and unload waste, perform safety checks, and maintain route discipline while ensuring compliance with all regulations. Hours are 40 per week, 6.30am–4.30pm, with occasional OT.

Qualifications

  • Must have Full Class 1 or 2 driving licence and valid DCPC.
  • Experience in waste collection or logistics is desirable but not essential.
  • Able to follow safety protocols and work in a physically demanding role.

Responsibilities

  • Operate company vehicles to collect Glass from various Hospitality, commercial, industrial, and residential locations.
  • Follow planned routes and schedules provided by the logistics team.
  • Ensure safe loading, securing, and unloading to avoid damage and maintain compliance with safety standards.
  • Perform daily vehicle inspections and ensure the vehicle is in good working order before beginning the route.
  • Manually or mechanically load and unload waste using trolleys, pallet trucks, and tail lifts.
  • Adhere to all legal requirements concerning transportation of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
  • Complete necessary paperwork including waste transfer notes and vehicle logbooks.
  • Interact professionally with customers at collection points and inform the customer service team of delays or issues.
  • Collaborate with the logistics team to optimise routes and monitor operational efficiency.

The Driver/Loader will be responsible for the collection, loading, and safe transportation of Waste across various locations in Northern Ireland. This role requires a reliable individual with a strong commitment to environmental responsibility and adherence to safety protocols. The successful candidate will ensure that all collections are performed efficiently and in accordance with legal and company guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
Driving and Collection:
  • Operate company vehicles to collect Glass from various Hospitality, commercial, industrial, and residential locations.
  • Follow planned routes and schedules provided by the logistics team.
  • Ensure safe loading, securing, and unloading to avoid damage and maintain compliance with safety standards.
  • Perform daily vehicle inspections and ensure the vehicle is in good working order before beginning the route.
Loading and Unloading:
  • Manually or mechanically load and unload waste, ensuring all items are handled safely and efficiently.
  • Use appropriate handling equipment such as trolleys, pallet trucks, and tail lifts to assist with loading/unloading operations.
Compliance and Safety:
  • Adhere to all legal requirements concerning the transportation of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
  • Maintain a high standard of health and safety practices, ensuring the safety of yourself, colleagues, and the public.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork, including waste transfer notes and vehicle logbooks, accurately and promptly.
Customer Service:
  • Interact professionally and courteously with customers at collection points.
  • Address any customer queries or concerns in a helpful manner, escalating issues to management if necessary.
  • Ensure timely collections and inform the Customer service team of any delays or issues encountered on the route.
Operational Efficiency:
  • Collaborate with the logistics team to optimise routes and improve collection efficiency.
  • Monitor and report any operational issues, such as vehicle defects or route challenges, to the relevant department for resolution.
  • Participate in training and development programs to enhance skills and stay up to date with industry standards.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Person Specification:
  • Full Class 1 and 2 driving licence
  • Valid DCPC
  • Valid Digital Tachograph
  • Previous experience in waste collection, logistics, or a related field is desirable.
Job Requirements:
  • Glass wheelie bins/Bottle bank collections.
  • Monday to Thursday [ Friday & Saturday work may be required on occasion]
  • 40 hours per week
  • 6.30am to 4.30pm
  • OT may be available
