Job summary

Tarmac Trading Limited in Thatcham, Berkshire, is looking for a reliable HGV Driver to join our National Road Planing team. You will travel nationwide, work a 40-hour week, and may be asked to work days, evenings or nights with occasional overnight stays.

You'll perform vehicle checks, plan routes to meet site start times, maintain safety standards, and communicate with the Planer Foreman. The role includes overtime and weekend work paid at a premium, with a supportive environment valuing

Responsibilities

• Carry out regular checks on lorries and trailers and report defects promptly.
• Ensure all journeys are completed safely, legally and in line with regulations.
• Plan journeys to meet site start times and coordinate with Planer Foreman and Operatives.
• Transport planed materials from site to tipping locations and record loads.
• Maintain communication with the NRP Transport Manager and adhere to company standards.

Job description

We are currently recruiting for an HGV Driver to join our National Road Planing (NRP) team. Although you will be based at our Thatcham office in Berkshire, this role requires flexibility as you will need to go where the work is, staying overnight if and when necessary. You will be expected to travel nationally. You will be contracted to 40-hours per week, but your work pattern may vary. Some weeks you may be working days, other times evenings and sometimes nights and we need any prospective candidates to be accommodating to these types of working hours and be flexible; sometimes at short notice. Prospective candidates are eligible for overtime, as and when it is available, which is paid at a premium and any weekend & bank holiday working also comes at a higher rate when available. • Carrying out regular checks on lorries and trailers, reporting defects promptly to the fitter and office
• Ensuring all journeys are completed safely, legally and in line with driving regulations
• Planning journeys in accordance with STGO Category 2 movement orders to ensure planers arrive on site for the correct shift start times
• Liaising closely with the Planer Foreman and Operatives to ensure effective teamwork on site
• Transporting planed materials from site to designated tipping locations
• Accurately recording planing loads and tip details on load transfer tickets and returning these to the office
• Complying with company standards and procedures and maintaining regular communication with the NRP Transport Manager

This role involves day and night working, weekend working, and occasional staying away during the week, depending on operational requirements.
