Job summary

EH Smith is hiring an HGV Driver at our Cannock branch to make multi‑drop deliveries of building materials around the local area in a safe, professional manner.

We offer sociable hours (no overnight stays), 42.5 hours per week, several start times, and a Saturday morning rota with paid overtime. Benefits include a enhanced pension, generous annual leave, life assurance, health plan and PPE provided.

Qualifications

• HGV category C license required.
• HIAB/ALLMI certificate and HIAB experience preferable.
• CPC Training provided.
• Health & Safety awareness.

Responsibilities

• Operate HGV and equipment in line with licence and company requirements.
• Assist with loading/unloading of HGV vehicles safely.
• Drive an HGV vehicle according to delivery schedule.
• Maintain records of journey times, mileage and hours worked.
• Deliver a safe, first-class service to customers (trade and retail).
• Conduct daily vehicle checks and report defects.
• Operate a tachograph in line with current legislation.

Job description

We have a great opportunity for an HGV Driver to join the team at our Cannock branch. You will be making multi-drop deliveries of building materials around the local area in a safe and professional manner.

Hours

• Sociable hours – no overnight stays or late evenings
• 42.5 hours per week Monday-Friday
• Start and Finish times could be 7:30am-5:00pm / 7:00am-4:30pm / 6:30am-4:00pm
• Participation in the Saturday Morning Rota - typically two Saturday mornings per month which are paid at on top of basic salary at a higher hourly overtime rate

Person & Skills

We are looking for a positive, confident, professional and safety-focused individual who wants to provide our customers with service that goes above and beyond.

The successful candidate will need to hold an HGV category C license.

A HIAB/ALLMI certificate and HIAB experience are preferable.

Key Tasks

• Operate HGV and associated equipment in line with licence, competence and company requirements
• Assisting with loading / unloading of HGV vehicles in a safe manner
• Driving an HGV vehicle in accordance with delivery schedule
• Maintaining records of journey times, mileage and hours worked
• Delivering a safe, first-class service to our customers, both trade and retail
• Conducting daily vehicle checks and reporting defects
• Operating a tachograph in line with current legislation
• Health & Safety awareness/adherence
