Job summary

Bristol Waste Company is seeking a Class 2 Driver/Loader based at Bristol. You will drive the company vehicle, load, transport and unload waste and recycling materials to meet customer requirements and comply with safety and legal standards.

Qualifications

• Must hold valid Category C (Class 2) licence, Driver CPC and Tachograph card.
• Able to operate mobile IT equipment and complete daily paperwork accurately.
• Experience in waste, recycling or collections is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Drive/operate vehicles and equipment in accordance with safety procedures and legal requirements.
• Tipping of vehicle at approved facilities; load and unload waste materials per policy and legal requirements.
• Undertake training as required and maintain vehicle cleanliness and daily checks.
• Communicate clearly with supervisors, colleagues, customers and the public.
• Work flexibly between locations to provide operational cover across all services.

Salary: £36,502.81 per annum (rising to £38,664.67 per annum with required overtime and bank holiday working)
Hours: 39 hours per week, Monday–Friday 06:00-14:18

The Role

As a Class 2 Driver/Loader you will be driving the company vehicle safely, load, transport and unload waste and recycling materials according to the agreed customer requirements, Bristol Waste Company procedure and all external legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• To drive / operate vehicles and equipment in accordance with company safety procedures and legal requirements and as required by the company in accordance with the valid licence, experience and training for that vehicle / equipment
• Tipping of vehicle at designated and approved recycling & refuse facilities, to load and unload waste materials in accordance with Bristol Waste Company’s policy, procedures, training and legal requirements, ensuring compliance with all health and safety requirements
• Undertake any training / instruction required to carry out these duties and or deemed necessary to fulfil the role (Including Driver Induction)
• Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of vehicles and equipment to a high standard, including daily vehicle checks on any vehicle driven
• To deal with colleagues, customers and other non – Bristol Waste Company personnel in a polite, responsible and professional manner
• To work flexibly between locations, including Avonmouth, Albert Road Depot and Hartcliffe, to provide operational cover across all services.
• To comply with all Bristol Waste Company reporting procedures.

What We’re Looking For

• Must hold a valid Category C licence (Class 2), Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph Card.
• Able to use mobile IT equipment, follow reporting procedures, complete daily paperwork and electronic records accurately.
• Communicate clearly with supervisors, controllers, colleagues, customers and members of the public
• Knowledge of daily vehicle checks, basic defect reporting and the importance of maintaining vehicle roadworthiness.
• Awareness of health, safety and environmental requirements when loading, transporting, unloading and tipping waste and recycling materials.
• Experience of completing daily vehicle checks and reporting defects accurately and promptly.
• Experience of waste, recycling, cleansing or commercial collections operations is desirable.
• Understanding of safe and legal HGV driving, including Working Time requirements, tachograph rules, official break requirements and company procedures.
• Experience of, or ability to undertake, physical outdoor work including moving bins, handling recycling containers and working in all weather conditions.
• 25 days annual leave + 8 bank holidays
• Overtime rate will be paid at 1.5 Mon-Sat, 2x pay on Bank Holidays and Sunday, Additional day off in lieu, for bank holiday working
