Job description

Our client is a reputable engineering firm, headquartered in Leeds. They have opened an exciting opportunity for a Class 1 HGV Driver and General Operations Assistant to join their transport team.

Hours of work are 8am to 4:30 pm Monday to Thursday; 6am to 2pm on Fridays + Travel Allowances + Overtime.

The pay rate is £15.63 per hour + any unsociable hours are paid at increased rates + allowances for any overnights etc.

Responsibilities:

1. Carry out driving & related duties involved with the carriage of heavy goods to & from Leeds to their client locations, ensuring driving is carried out in a safe & efficient manner, in full compliance with road traffic regulations.
2. Oversee the safe unloading of vehicles at customer premises, ensuring PoD’s are signed & returned without delay.
3. Check the load security & weight distribution according to the latest safe working practices before setting out & after each drop.
4. As required, & appropriately trained, work mobile equipment to load &/or unload vehicles.
5. Maintain good knowledge of UK geography and follow best practices for fuel-efficient driving.
6. Ensure vehicles are in safe condition, with daily checks completed before use. Actively take responsibility for keeping the vehicle clean & tidy.
7. Update documents relating to the carriage of products.
8. Assist with adhoc duties in the warehouse and office as required.

Relevant skills and experience:

1. Comfortable working in a flexible, results-oriented, team environment.
2. Experience working in an engineering firm is highly desired.
3. Able to read written instructions & record accurately work carried out.
4. Knowledge of EHS requirements in a warehouse/distribution environment.
5. Ideally experienced with either steel or very heavy goods (the steel can be up to 15ft long, and there can be about 25-40 beams on the wagon).
