Role Description The Heritage Graduate will support the council’s heritage, culture, and place-making initiatives as part of a full-time hybrid role based in Grimsby, with some work from home. Day-to-day responsibilities may include researching local history and heritage assets, assisting with the development of heritage projects and interpretation materials, and contributing to reports, presentations, and funding bids. The role will involve collaboration with internal teams, partners, and community groups to help protect and promote the area’s historic environment and cultural identity. The Heritage Graduate will help gather and analyze relevant data, support consultation and engagement activities, and contribute to digital and written content that enhances public understanding of local heritage. The position also offers opportunities to gain experience in project support, policy implementation, and stakeholder engagement within a local government setting.

Qualifications

• Relevant degree (e.g., History, Heritage Studies, Archaeology, Museum Studies, Geography, or related discipline).
• Knowledge or interest in heritage conservation, local history, and the role of culture in regeneration and place-making.
• Strong research, analytical, and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly for different audiences.
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, partners, and community groups, and to build positive working relationships.
• Good organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
• Comfort with hybrid working, including use of digital tools, online collaboration platforms, and basic IT skills (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, presentations).
• Awareness of equality, diversity, and inclusion principles, and a commitment to accessible and inclusive heritage practices.
• Interest in local government, public service, and contributing to the long-term development of North East Lincolnshire; prior placement or volunteering experience in heritage, archives, museums, or planning is an advantage but not essential.
