Job summary

SLR CONSULTING is seeking an experienced Associate Heritage Consultant to join their Archaeology & Heritage team in Bristol. This role involves leading heritage input on diverse projects, from feasibility through to planning and delivery.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in UK heritage consultancy, expertise in preparing technical reports, and the ability to manage client relationships. SLR values flexible, hybrid working and offers competitive rewards including 25 days annual leave and private medical insurance.

Qualifications

  • Clear experience in delivering UK heritage consultancy projects.
  • Strong understanding of UK planning policy and legislation relating to heritage.
  • Full UK driving licence is required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead heritage input on projects from feasibility through to planning and delivery.
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports (heritage statements, impact assessments and EIA chapters).
  • Manage project budgets, programmes, and client relationships.
  • Support business development, including proposals and networking.
  • Mentor and support junior colleagues.

Membership of CIfA (Associate or progressing to full membership)

The Role
  • Leading heritage input on projects from feasibility through to planning and delivery
  • Preparing high-quality technical reports (heritage statements, impact assessments and EIA chapters)
  • Providing strategic advice to clients, architects and internal teams
  • Managing project budgets, programmes and client relationships
  • Supporting business development, including proposals and networking
  • Mentoring and supporting junior colleagues

About You

We are looking for someone with clear experience delivering UK heritage consultancy projects and a strong understanding of UK planning policy and legislation relating to heritage, as well as:

  • Ability to assess heritage significance and impacts of development
  • Experience preparing technical reports and advising stakeholders
  • Project management and commercial awareness
  • Membership of CIfA (Associate or working towards full membership)
  • Relevant degree (or equivalent experience) and full UK driving licence

Desirable:

  • Full MCIfA and/or membership of IHBC
  • Experience in built heritage projects such as listed buildings or conservation planning
