Job summary

Leeds City Council is seeking a skilled Craft Gardener to manage heritage gardens at Lotherton Estate and lead a small team of gardeners and trainees. You will plan maintenance, supervise planting schemes, and ensure high standards for visitor experiences.

The role requires NVQ2 in Amenity Horticulture (or equivalent) and a strong background in heritage landscapes, with driving license and flexibility across sites within Leeds.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Amenity Horticulture or equivalent.
• PA1/PA6 spraying certificate desirable.
• Significant practical experience in heritage gardens considered if formal qualifications are lacking.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and train staff including seasonal workers and apprentices.
• Prepare land for planting and establish annuals, perennials.
• Interpret planting plans and maintain turf and landscape features.
• Provide guidance to Gardeners and help with staff development.
• Respond to visitor enquiries about horticulture.
