Job summary

AtkinsRéalis Heritage is seeking an Assistant Heritage Consultant to support archaeological projects across the UK and internationally, based in London or Birmingham. You will help manage fieldwork, coordinate subcontractors, and contribute to heritage strategies within a multidisciplinary team.

The role offers flexible and hybrid working, opportunities to travel, and exposure to major infrastructure projects while developing your expertise in planning processes, EIA, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Strong background in UK historic environment with archaeological fieldwork.
• Masters or higher in archaeology or considerable experience in the commercial archaeological sector akin to this level of qualification.
• Working knowledge of planning processes (including EIA) and relevant environmental/heritage legislation.
• Knowledge of the consenting process for listed buildings and scheduled monuments.
• Willingness to travel across the UK and internationally; driving license required.
• Member of the Institute for Archaeologists at least Associate level or above (CIfA).

Responsibilities

• Principally management and QA of archaeological fieldwork programmes and subcontractors, including Archaeological Clerk of Works on major infrastructure projects.
• Contributing to defining and developing scope, programme, and design of heritage works, including mitigation and outreach.
• Providing technical advice to clients and internal teams on a diverse range of projects.
• Preparing and contributing to EIA screening, heritage statements, desk-based assessments and consent applications.
• Assessing heritage constraints to inform design development.
• Delivery of medium-to-large scale projects on time and within budget.
• Liaison with heritage stakeholders and project teams; contribution to tenders.
