Healthcare Support Worker - Faraday Ward

Whipps Cross University Hospital is recruiting a Healthcare Support Worker (HCA) Band 3 for Faraday Ward. This position is open to both experienced HCAs and those new to care. Newcomers will receive support to complete Band 3 competencies and can progress into a Band 3 role within six months upon successful completion.

About the Role

We seek compassionate, motivated individuals passionate about high-quality, person-centred care in a hospital setting. Responsibilities include:

  1. Patient observations (e.g., monitoring vital signs)
  2. Assisting with personal care and mobility
  3. Supporting nutritional and hydration needs
  4. Performing delegated duties (e.g., taking blood pressure, recording ECG, MRSA screening)
  5. Wound dressings
  6. Effective teamworking and communication to ensure patient comfort, wellbeing, and safety

The post involves working within the 16-bed Faraday Ward, an acute respiratory unit committed to high standards of care aligned with trust policies and Barts Health values. The environment fosters respect and dignity for patients, visitors, and staff, emphasizing excellent communication and multidisciplinary teamwork.

Ward Details

Patients often have complex needs, with multidisciplinary teams supporting treatment and discharge planning. The ward collaborates closely with occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and medical staff, including respiratory consultants and junior doctors, to provide comprehensive care and ensure safe discharges.

Additional Information

The role may require shift work, including nights and weekends, due to the diverse and busy service. The trust cannot sponsor this role per government guidelines.

This position is ideal for individuals new to care, with support provided to achieve competencies and a potential progression to Band 3 within six months. Until then, the salary will reflect Band 2 levels.
