Whipps Cross University Hospital - Healthcare Support Worker (HCA) Band 3

Whipps Cross University Hospital is seeking a compassionate and motivated Healthcare Support Worker (HCA) Band 3 to work on Faraday Ward. This role is open to both experienced HCAs and individuals new to care. Newcomers will receive support to complete Band 3 competencies and progress into a Band 3 role within six months upon successful completion of all required competencies.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will undertake delegated clinical tasks, including:

  1. Patient observations (e.g., monitoring vital signs)
  2. Assisting with personal care and mobility
  3. Supporting patients’ nutritional and hydration needs
  4. Performing delegated duties such as taking blood pressure, recording ECG, MRSA screening
  5. Performing simple wound dressings

Strong teamwork and communication skills are essential to ensure the comfort, wellbeing, and safety of patients.

About Faraday Ward

Faraday Ward is a 16-bedded acute respiratory ward committed to providing high-quality, person-centred care. The ward receives admissions from A&E, AAU, other wards, the chest clinic, and other hospitals within Barts Health Trust. Patients often have complex needs, and the team adopts a multidisciplinary approach to treatment and discharge planning, including collaboration with Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists.

Team and Environment

The ward is led by respiratory consultants and supported by junior doctors. Our nursing team is highly trained in respiratory care, and we prioritize excellent communication with patients and their families. We foster an environment of respect, dignity, and continuous improvement, welcoming feedback to enhance our services.

Working Conditions

The role may require shift work, including nights and weekends, within a challenging clinical environment. Flexibility is essential.

  • The post offers a pathway for individuals new to care to develop their competencies and progress within six months, with an initial Band 2 salary.
