A rewarding job and NO UNSOCIAL HOURS as a Nursing Assistant in ENT/Plastics Outpatients Department. Our department provides care and treatment to patients with Ear, Nose
and Throat and Plastics Surgery conditions making it a very interesting, diverse and rewarding area to work in.

As a nursing assistant in the ENT/Plastics Outpatient Department, you will have a great opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills. We are a dynamic team, and you will have the opportunity to develop in your role to assist the Doctors and Nurses running clinics from Monday to Friday. Patients come to us for different reasons, we see them for
their first consultation where they get their diagnosis and plan for treatment, pre-operatively to ensure that they are fit enough for surgery and after their operation for complex wound dressing changes following surgery.

We are looking for a confident, outgoing and kind individual to join our team who has the energy and commitment to provide great quality care and who interacts well with patients and colleagues, helping the service to run smoothly and our patients to have a positive experience of their time with us.

The department nursing assistants once properly trained, support our clinicians at our ENT peripheral clinics in Wantage, Brackley and Chipping Norton.


In return we will offer you training and development in skills such as taking bloods, doing ECGs, and patient observations such as blood pressure.

Main duties of the job

Ensure patients are supported compassionately during their time in the outpatient department and the wider hospital environment.

Assist registered nurses in effective running of outpatient clinics, including managing patient flow through the clinics.

Assist wider multi- disciplinary team in supporting patients, including speech and language therapists and dietitians.

Assist in clinics by chaperoning or supporting medical staff undertaking minor procedures.

Once trained complete patient obeservations including Temperature, Pulse, Respiration Rate, Blood Pressure, Weight.Undertake additional training to be able to undertake phlebotomy and ECG procedures.

Undertake training in tracheostomy awareness to increase awareness of tracheostomy patients and patients with altered airways.

Support the running of the pre- operative assessment clinics.
Undertake ‘in house’ OUH decontamination training for the care of endoscopes used within the department.

Support patient dignity and comfort, e.g by escorting them to the toilet or by meeting their nutritional needs.Take an active role in ordering stock items for the department.

Ensure Infection Prevention Control methods are adhered to.
