Job summary

PRS seeks a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join its healthcare maintenance team. You will perform planned and reactive maintenance on mechanical building services in a critical hospital environment, ensuring safety, reliability and regulatory compliance. NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds is required, with strong fault-finding skills and experience with HVAC, CAFM and BMS systems. You will work independently and with the wider engineering team to minimise downtime and improve energy efficiency.

Qualifications

• Recognised mechanical qualification (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
• Experience carrying out mechanical maintenance within commercial, industrial, or critical environments.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of HVAC systems and general building services maintenance.
• Understanding of health and safety regulations and safe working practices.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team.
• Previous experience within a healthcare or NHS environment.
• Knowledge of HTM guidance and healthcare compliance standards.
• Experience with BMS-controlled mechanical systems.
• Familiarity with CAFM systems and digital maintenance records.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on mechanical building services systems.
• Diagnose and repair faults across a range of mechanical plant and equipment.
• Maintain HVAC systems, pumps, motors, valves, pipework, water systems, and associated plant.
• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health and safety regulations, company procedures, and healthcare standards.
• Complete maintenance records and documentation accurately using CAFM systems where required.
• Support the delivery of statutory compliance and site inspections.
• Assist with plant shutdowns, repairs, and minor project works.
• Liaise with engineers, subcontractors, and site management to ensure efficient service delivery.
• Respond promptly to equipment failures and minimise disruption to critical healthcare services.
• Identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, and energy efficiency.
