We have a fantastic opportunity for a Substance Misuse Healthcare Assistant to join the team at HMP Leeds, a busy category B prison located in Leeds Centre.

This is a crucial role within the healthcare team, making a real difference to patients and delivering outstanding care. This is a full-time role, 37.5 hours per week, working a variety of shifts between Monday and Sunday, including weekends and nights.

Salary: £24,670 - £28,691 per annum, depending on experience.

Candidates must have the legal right to work in the UK. Employment is subject to vetting and security checks due to the nature of the role.

Main duties of the job
  • Implement clinical care packages, including phlebotomy, assessment, treatment, and evaluation of patient care
  • Review patients via appointment ledger, including methadone, drug use, and withdrawal assessments
  • Carry out reception duties, review new patients, and conduct assessments, including urine samples
  • Support the SMS NMP team in medication delivery and patient care
  • Work primarily within the clinical substance misuse team, with potential duties in primary care
  • Respond to emergency situations as needed

Qualifications & Experience
  • Hold a NVQ Level 2 in Healthcare
  • Previous care experience, ideally in hospital or prison settings; E.g., A&E experience is beneficial
  • Experience in substance misuse or mental health is a plus
  • Non-judgemental and compassionate approach—caring about making a difference
Additional criteria
  • Must pass Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks due to role requirements
