Job summary

Practice Plus Group is hiring a Healthcare Assistant for the Primary Care team at HMP Winchester in Winchester. The role involves delivering patient care in a secure environment, supporting clinics, and assisting the nursing team within the prison's healthcare setting.

The ideal candidate will have NVQ Level 2/3 or Care Certificate, phlebotomy and clinical care experience, and a compassionate, non-judgemental approach. 37.5 hours per week, with a salary up to £31,789 per year.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care or Care Certificate.
• Experience in phlebotomy is highly desirable.
• Experience in a clinical care setting, ideally hospital or prison.
• Clinical skills including venipuncture and ECGs.
• Non-judgemental and compassionate approach.

Responsibilities

• Deliver exceptional patient care in both healthcare and wings areas.
• Facilitate clinics, including bloods, observations, ECGs and NHS Health checks.
• Support implementation of clinical care packages.
• Assist nursing team with all aspects of care.
• Act as second checker in pharmacy as required.
• Support receptions and triage new patients.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join our Primary Care team at HMP Winchester, a category B prison located in Winchester.

HMP Winchester is a busy remand prison with a capacity for around 658 males. We are recruiting for a Healthcare Assistant to support the wider healthcare team with tasks such as observations, managing minor injuries and health screenings. HMP Winchester offers free parking and its also close to the town centre for public transport links.

Candidates are required to have a Legal right to work in the UK and due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks

Hours

37.5 hours per week

3 x Long days

0730 - 2100

1.5 weekends in a 4 week rolling shift pattern.

Salary

This position is full time, you’ll receive an annual salary up to £31,789 per annum.

What you'll be doing

As our new Healthcare Assistant, your responsibilities will vary. Some of your duties will include:

• Deliver exceptional care to patients, both in the healthcare department and on the wings
• Facilitate clinics, including bloods, observations (obs), ECGs, NHS Health checks etc
• Be involved in the implementation of clinical care packages
• Support the nursing team with all aspects of care
• Act as a second checker in pharmacy as required
• Support receptions (new patients entering the prison) and assist with triaging new patients
• You will primarily be working within the primary care team, although may be required to carry out duties in the primary care teams.

Our new Healthcare Assistant will

• Ideally hold an NVQ Level 2 or 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, or Care Certificate
• Have experience within phlebotomy - this is highly desirable!
• Have experience in a clinical care setting previously - ideally from a hospital or prison setting
• Have clinical experience - venepuncture, ECGs etc
• Have a non-judgemental and compassionate approach
