Job summary

Practice Plus Group is seeking Healthcare Assistants to join HMP Lancaster Farms on a bank basis. This role supports primary care delivery within a secure prison environment and works with a multidisciplinary team.

You’ll perform clinics, bloods, obs, health checks, and support medication rounds, with flexible shifts up to 22.5 hours per week across several days. Bank roles offer flexible hours and opportunities to gain experience across wings, reception, and clinical areas.

Qualifications

• Clinical experience in bloods and patient assessment.
• Experience in a prison or secure setting is desirable.
• Excellent communication and teamwork in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Run and support healthcare clinics (bloods, observations, ECGs, NHS Health Checks)

What You’ll Be Doing

• Running and supporting healthcare clinics (bloods, observations, ECGs, NHS Health Checks)
• Working in reception (Early Days in Custody), carrying out basic health assessments and blood‑borne virus screening

What We’re Looking For

• This is a clinical role, so it is essential that you have experience in at least some of the following: Bloods (phlebotomy/venepuncture), ECGs, NEWS2, Health Checks, Physical Observations (obs), Wound Care etc
• Experience of working within a clinical setting, such as a hospital (A&E would be a bonus) or a prison / secure setting
• Care Certificate and/or NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care
• A resilient, proactive, and enthusiastic approach to patient care
• Ability to work effectively in a secure and fast‑paced environment

About HMP Lancaster Farms

HMP Lancaster Farms is a busy Category C male prison, currently holding around 550 males, and expanding by another 200.

Practice Plus Group provides primary care and substance misuse services across the wings, clinic areas, inpatient facilities, and reception services.

Working Pattern

This position is offered on a bank basis, and you can work up to 22.5 hours per week and does require flexibility. Shifts are between the following days / hours:

Monday - Thursday - 7:30am - 7:30pm

Friday - 7:30am - 6pm

Saturday & Sunday - 8am - 5:30pm
