Job summary

SILVER BLUE SERVICES LTD t/a Springday Healthcare is seeking a passionate Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our team in SA9 1AU. You will support patients with daily activities, provide compassionate care and help maintain a safe, clean environment in line with care plans.

As an HCA you will work closely with nurses and carers, communicate clearly with patients and families, and participate in induction and ongoing training to maintain high standards of person-centred care.

Job Description: Healthcare Assistant (HCA)

Key responsibilities

• Treat every patient with kindness, dignity and respect, taking account of their preferences, culture, communication needs and privacy.
• Support patients with personal care and everyday activities, such as washing, dressing, toileting, eating and drinking, as directed by the care plan.
• Encourage patients to do as much as they safely can for themselves and support mobility and independence as directed by the registered practitioner.
• Observe patients and promptly report changes, concerns or requests for help to the registered nurse or appropriate clinician.
• Record care given and observations accurately, promptly and in accordance with local policy.
• Help maintain a clean, safe and welcoming care environment, following infection prevention, health and safety, and waste‑disposal procedures.
• Communicate clearly and respectfully with patients, relatives, carers and colleagues, referring clinical questions or concerns to the appropriate registered practitioner.
• Work constructively with the nursing team and other professionals involved in the patient’s care, including supporting safe handovers within the role.
• Attend required induction, training, supervision and development activities, and maintain competence for delegated tasks.
• Compassionate, respectful and patient‑focused approach.
• Clear communication and listening skills.
• Ability to work reliably as part of a team and follow instructions and care plans.
• Ability to recognise when a concern needs to be escalated.
