Job summary

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust invites applications for an HCSW Level 3 Apprenticeship starting January 2027, with interviews in November 2026. The 24-month training leads from Band 2 (£25,760) to Band 3 on completion, with a rota including days, nights, weekends and bank holidays.

A local provider delivers the course; you will receive tutor support onsite and release time for study sessions.

Qualifications

• Educated to Maths & English or equivalent demonstrable experience.
• Demonstrate an awareness of healthcare work and policies and procedures.
• Committed to providing high quality patient care.

Responsibilities

• Obtain consent prior to giving care in accordance with Trust policies.
• Competently undertake delegated duties in line with patient care plans.
• Undertake non-routine duties using knowledge and experience with minimal supervision.
• Carry out clinical duties including vitals, blood tests, urine/fecal sample handling and wound swabs.
• Participate in patient assessment and escalate concerns to the clinical team.
• Follow infection prevention and safety policies while delivering care.
• Maintain work environment in line with infection control and safety standards.
• Support self-care and independence for patients.
• Promote health education aligned with national and local guidelines.
• Maintain accurate records and communicate with patients, relatives and the MDT.
• Ensure equipment and stores are maintained and replenished as needed.
• Work effectively as part of a team.
• Input information into electronic patient records and written notes.
