Healthcare Assistant

The Healthcare Assistant (HCA) plays a key role in supporting both clinical and administrative teams to deliver high-quality patient care within primary care settings across Barking & Dagenham. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder provides care within their scope of practice, contributing to effective, compassionate, and patient-centred services.

Main duties of the job

The Healthcare Assistant supports the delivery of clinical care by undertaking a range of duties including patient health checks, baseline clinical observations, venepuncture, ECGs, wound care, and health promotion activities. The role also involves preparing and maintaining clinical environments, ensuring infection prevention and control standards are met, and accurately recording patient information using clinical systems. In addition, the HCA provides administrative support as required, contributing to smooth day-to-day service delivery and positive patient experiences.

Job responsibilities

Qualifications
  • Healthcare qualification (level 3 or 4) or working towards gaining equivalent level.
  • Previous completion of the HCA Care Certificate.
