Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced pharmacist or post-doctoral health services researcher to further their experience by undertaking research and evaluation within the Centre for Medication Safety and Service Quality (CMSSQ). Half of the post-holder's time will be spent delivering on funded research as part of the NIHR North West London Patient Safety Research Collaboration, and the other half will be supporting pharmacy staff in developing skills in research and evaluation.

Main duties of the job
  • The role will include designing and piloting data collection methods, protocol design, data collection and analysis, and report writing, all within the area of medication safety.
  • Projects include a realist evaluation of how and why barcode medication scanning adds value in relation to medication safety, and exploring how we can improve safe management of patients' medication allergies in the hospital setting.
  • The post holder will also provide support to the pharmacy department in relation to research and evaluation, through providing one to one support as well as contributing to the department's programme of education

Person specification
Education
  • In depth specialist knowledge of research techniques, analysis and the use of information across the NHS, acquired through degree or equivalent plus additional specialist knowledge acquired through training and relevant experience to Master’s degree level or equivalent
  • A PhD in Health Services Research or related area, or equivalent, and/or registration as a pharmacist
Experience
  • Research Experience
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
Skills
  • Good ability to organise and prioritise work
  • Ability to influence senior healthcare staff
  • Analytical ability for problem solving
  • A good understanding of national and local priorities
  • An interest in and awareness of issues relating to medication safety
