Job summary

Sodexo Justice is seeking a Health & Safety Manager for HMP Altcourse in Liverpool. The role offers £50,000 per annum, permanent, 40 hours per week, on-site with enhanced vetting.

You will provide visible leadership, drive investigations, strengthen risk management, support fire and food safety controls, deliver safety training, and foster a proactive safety culture across the site. Some travel between sites may be required.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma or NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety (or equivalent).
• Minimum of five years' experience in a similar Health & Safety role.
• Professional membership at GradIOSH/CertIOSH or IIRSM with CPD evidence.
• Experience in safety management systems and audits.
• Strong planning, communication and influencing skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide visible safety leadership through tours, inspections and guidance to teams.
• Drive incidents investigations with root-cause analysis for serious/high-risk events.
• Strengthen risk management with robust assessments and safe systems of work.
• Support fire safety compliance including inspections and audit actions.
• Collaborate with catering and facilities on food safety standards and checks.
• Coach teams via training and toolbox talks to manage risks.
• Turn insights into improvements by analyzing trends and reporting progress.
• Support audits and ISO certifications; work with leaders to strengthen compliance.
