Job summary

NEOS Recruitment is seeking a Health & Safety Manager for Burton-on-Trent. You will maintain H&S systems, ensure regulatory compliance, and work closely with engineers and depot teams to drive safety across operations.

You should have NEBOSH and IOSH qualifications, around 5 years in H&S within plant hire or construction, and a practical, proactive approach to safety.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH qualification is required.
• IOSH qualification or membership required.
• Around 5 years' Health & Safety experience in plant hire or construction.
• Experience with risk assessments, RAMS, audits and incident investigations.
• Experience around heavy plant or engineering environments is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and regularly update Health & Safety systems, policies and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, regulations and industry standards.
• Carry out site and depot inspections, identifying risks and taking corrective actions.
• Provide practical Health & Safety advice to engineers and operational teams.
• Liaise with clients regarding Health & Safety requirements and compliance.
• Support safe operation, maintenance and use of mobile plant and equipment.
• Review and update risk assessments, RAMS and other H&S documentation.
• Monitor H&S performance and maintain records and reporting systems.
• Assist with incident and accident investigations and establish corrective actions.
• Support audits and ensure actions are completed.
• Provide Health & Safety guidance to employees across the business.

Health & Safety Manager

Location: Burton-on-Trent

Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 + Company Car

Industry: Plant Hire / Construction

We are working with an established plant hire business that is looking to appoint a Health & Safety Advisor to support the business across its operations.

This is a varied, practical role that will involve maintaining and improving Health & Safety systems, ensuring the business remains compliant, and working closely with engineers, depot teams, customers and site-based personnel.

The ideal candidate will have experience within plant hire, construction, aggregates, civil engineering or a similar environment, and will be comfortable operating in a practical, operational setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and regularly update the company's Health & Safety systems, policies and procedures.
• Ensure the business remains compliant with relevant Health & Safety legislation, regulations and industry standards.
• Carry out site and depot inspections, identifying risks and ensuring appropriate actions are taken.
• Work closely with engineers and operational teams to provide practical Health & Safety advice.
• Liaise with clients and customers regarding Health & Safety requirements and compliance.
• Support the safe operation, maintenance and use of mobile plant and equipment.
• Review and update risk assessments, method statements and other Health & Safety documentation.

About You

We're looking for someone who understands that good Health & Safety is about more than just paperwork and policies. You will be practical, approachable and confident working with engineers, customers and operational teams.

Ideally, you will have:

• NEBOSH qualification.
• IOSH qualification/membership.
• Around 5 years' Health & Safety experience — although this is not essential for the right person.
• Experience within plant hire, construction, aggregates, quarrying, civil engineering or a similar industry.
• Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation and compliance.
• Experience with risk assessments, RAMS, audits, inspections and incident investigations.
• Experience working around heavy plant, machinery or engineering environments would be advantageous.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• The confidence to liaise with clients, engineers, depot staff and management.
