Job Title: Health Safety & Environmental Enforcement Officer

Location: Wokingham, Berkshire (Hybrid: part office, part home)

Salary: £30,559 - £49,764 per annum (depending on experience) + benefits

Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Hours: 37 hours per week

Job Overview

We are seeking a Health Safety & Environmental Enforcement Officer with either possession of or working towards an appropriate Environmental Health qualification. The ideal candidate will have experience in food safety and health & safety enforcement, along with excellent organizational and negotiation skills. This role involves proactive and reactive interventions related to Food Hygiene, Health and Safety at Work, Approved Premises, Food Sampling, Infectious Disease Control, and Dermal Treatment Licence Inspections.

We welcome applications from both experienced Environmental Health Officers/Practitioners and those eager to gain experience in new areas of Environmental Health. Key Duties

• Enforce Environmental Health legislation, including statutory compliance inspections
• Conduct compliance inspections, reactive investigations, and complaint investigations
• Gather evidence, prepare inspection reports, statutory notices, and schedules
• Prepare prosecution reports and support legal proceedings
• At senior level, oversee an Environmental Health Specialism
• Engage with stakeholders and external agencies

Candidate Requirements

• Possession of or working towards an appropriate Environmental Health qualification
• Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage work effectively
• At senior level, experience in coordinating inspection programs and reactive service requests
• Strong negotiation, persuasion, and influencing skills
• Competence in accordance with the current Food Law Code of Practice
• Experience in food safety and health & safety enforcement within a local authority
