Job summary

Chemring Energetics UK Ltd at Ardeer is seeking an Advisor to apply health, safety and environmental expertise in a highly regulated manufacturing environment. You will identify risks, turn standards into practical actions, and participate in audits, incident investigations and training to drive continual improvement.

Based at the Ardeer site, you will collaborate with operational teams and management to embed HSEQ practices, monitor performance and report on safety improvements across the site.

Qualifications

• Degree in occupational health and safety or equivalent.
• Experience in HSE/HSEQ/SHE/EHS environments.
• Experience in high-hazard manufacturing or regulated industries.
• Practical risk assessments in high-hazard settings.
• ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 knowledge; internal auditor experience is a plus.
• Incident investigation and root-cause analysis experience.

Responsibilities

• Work in full compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation, policies and procedures.
• Identify and report unsafe acts and conditions through Near Miss system.
• Support HSEQ functions and plant management to embed policy and manage systems.
• Conduct site inspections, audits and compliance monitoring; manage actions to completion.
• Maintain HSSE records and documentation; ensure accuracy and up-to-date logs.
• Compile HSEQ statistics, analyze trends and prepare reports for decision-making.

Based at our Ardeer site, you'll work closely with operational teams and management to identify risks, improve standards and turn good HSEQ practice into meaningful, lasting change. From audits, inspections and risk assessments to incident investigations, training and continual improvement, this is a varied, hands-on role where your expertise will make a visible difference.

You'll join a global business providing equipment based on energetic materials for defence, civil defence and key commercial customers, providing an excellent opportunity to develop your HSE expertise and build experience in a safety-critical industry.

What You'll Do

• Work in full compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation, company policies and procedures.
• Identify and report unsafe acts and conditions through the Near Miss system, encouraging proactive learning and continuous improvement.
• Support the HSEQ functions and plant management in embedding the Health, Safety, Security & Environment Policy and supporting HSEQ management systems.
• Conduct site inspections, audits and compliance monitoring, working with departments to manage actions through to completion.
• Maintain health, safety and environmental management systems, ensuring records and documentation remain accurate and up to date.
• Compile HSEQ statistics, analyse trends and prepare reports to support informed decision-making and performance improvement.
• Support the completion and review of suitable and sufficient risk assessments, ensuring appropriate controls are identified and implemented.
• Help develop safe operational procedures that identify relevant hazards and recommend practical, compliant improvements to working practices.
• Maintain relevant HSSE logs and documentation and support the preparation of regular performance reports.
• Assist with the development and delivery of relevant HSSE training and awareness materials.
• Build positive, proactive relationships with managers, employees, customers and regulatory agencies.
• Participate in detailed incident investigations, root-cause analysis and the identification and implementation of effective corrective actions.
• Work collaboratively with operational teams to identify opportunities to improve HSEQ performance and embed a positive safety culture across the site.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for someone with a strong health, safety and environmental background who enjoys working collaboratively with operational teams and turning standards and requirements into practical solutions.

You'll ideally bring:

• A degree or equivalent qualification in occupational health and safety, environmental management or a closely related discipline.
• Experience working within an HSE, HSEQ, SHE, SHEQ, EHS, HSSE or QHSE environment.
• Experience within high-hazard manufacturing or another highly regulated industry.
• Practical experience of undertaking and reviewing risk assessments within a high-hazard or similarly regulated setting.
• Knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001, with internal-auditor experience or qualification highly desirable.
• Experience of incident investigation, problem-solving and root-cause analysis.
• Strong IT capability, including confident use of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• The ability to communicate clearly, influence constructively and work effectively with people across operational and management teams.
• An accredited training qualification or previous experience of delivering training would be advantageous.

Experience within industries such as chemical, pharmaceutical, energy, nuclear, defence, aerospace, process manufacturing or other highly regulated environments would be particularly relevant.

During your first six months, you'll develop your knowledge of basic explosive-safety principles, the Explosives Regulations 2014, COMAH requirements and relevant CEUK business systems, including Q-Pulse, Agility and Epicor.
