Job description

The Health, Safety and Risk Manager will provide expert leadership and specialist advice on health, safety and risk management across Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The postholder will play a significant role in strengthening the organisation's approach to risk identification, assurance, governance and continuous improvement, ensuring risks to staff, patients, services and organisational objectives are effectively managed. Working closely with managers, clinical teams and corporate services, the postholder will support the development of a proactive risk management culture, embedding effective governance arrangements and promoting learning from incidents, audits and assurance activities. The successful candidate will:

• Provide specialist health, safety and risk management advice to operational and senior leaders across a diverse and complex healthcare environment.
• Lead and support complex risk assessments, assurance reviews and safety evaluations, helping services identify and manage strategic, operational and emerging risks.
• Support the investigation of significant incidents, near misses and safety events, identifying root causes, lessons learned and opportunities for organisational improvement.
• Analyse organisational risk, incident and performance data to identify trends, provide assurance and support evidence-based decision making.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with clinical and non-clinical services, providing support to improve compliance, strengthen governance and reduce organisational risk exposure.
• Plan and undertake audits, inspections and assurance activities to evaluate the effectiveness of risk controls and compliance arrangements.
• Contribute to the development, implementation and review of policies, procedures and frameworks that support effective health, safety and risk management across the Health Board.
• Prepare and present high-quality reports, risk assessments, briefing papers and assurance information for senior management teams, committees and Board-level groups.
• Lead the governance, quality assurance and operational oversight of the Health Board's face fit testing programme, ensuring compliance with legislative and organisational requirements.
• Deliver training, workshops and awareness sessions that improve understanding of risk management responsibilities and promote a positive safety culture.
• Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators and partner organisations, to support organisational resilience, compliance and continuous improvement.
