Job summary

Executive Network Group is seeking a Health, Safety and Environmental Manager for a single site in Shepton Mallet, Somerset. You will shape HSE strategy, culture, and risk management with one direct report, sitting in the senior leadership team to challenge and support operations.

You will drive environmental compliance, ESG initiatives and an ISO 14001 rollout, promoting proactive safety behaviors in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

• Essential manufacturing background in food and beverage sectors.
• Experience with ISO 14001 or ISO 45001 and environmental permits.
• Proven ability to drive safety culture and leadership at site level.

Responsibilities

• Drive safety across a single site and support day-to-day operations.
• Manage 1 direct report and coach the HSE Coordinator.
• Advise senior leaders and strengthen ownership of operational risks.
• Lead audits, investigations and corrective actions.
• Oversee environmental reporting, carbon accounting and ESG activities.
• Coordinate energy, water, waste and emissions data for reporting.
• Establish HSE training framework and track performance metrics.

Role: Health, Safety and Environmental Manager

Company: Established but growing food and beverage manufacturing company

Salary: £55,000–£70,000 per year + package

Location: Shepton Mallet, Somerset, can work from home for 1 day per week.

Overview of the position:

• Seeking a credible and proactive Health, Safety and Environmental Manager to drive safety across this single but complex site. Supporting day to day operations and developing group strategy for this site
• To manage 1 direct report, a HSE Coordinator offering coaching and development.
• This is a senior role for the company and will be a key member of the senior leadership team. To advise and challenge leaders, strengthen management ownership of operational risks and ensure that significant compliance issues are identified and addressed.
• Ensure compliance but also drive cultural change and encourage positive and proactive behaviours on site. Allowing the workforce to take accountability for safety
• Manage the ESG agenda, development of environmental reporting, carbon accounting and the wider ESG strategy. With the future plan to roll out ISO 14001.
• Maintain oversight of environmental permits, regulatory submissions, waste duty of care, emissions, effluent, drainage, water, chemicals and pollution prevention.
• Lead audits, inspections, risk reviews, incident investigations and corrective-action follow-up.
• Set standards for risk assessments, safe systems of work and operational procedures across areas including COSHH, DSEAR, machinery safety, workplace transport, contractors, permits and occupational health.
• Provide HSE assurance for new plant, processes, chemicals, buildings and layouts, including management of change and relevant CDM duties.
• Own fire-safety governance, emergency preparedness, drills, maintenance evidence and contractor coordination.
• Coordinate auditable energy, fuel, water, waste and emissions data, supporting carbon-footprint development, EcoVadis, M2030, customer questionnaires and ESG reporting.
• Establish the HSE training and competence framework, promote employee participation and report performance, trends and material risks to senior leaders.

Essential background and qualifications:

• Manufacturing background, ideally food, drink, beverage, dairy, baked goods, distillery, brewery, paper, packaging, textiles, tobacco
• NEBOSH General Certificate or ideally Diploma or equivalent
• Experience of ISO 14001 or ISO 45001, environmental permits, ESOS, carbon accounting, EcoVadis, SMETA or M2030 (very desirable)
