Job Description
Role:
To develop and implement c2c’s Health, Safety & Environment strategies, management processes, and standards, and lead their implementation across the c2c business.
Provide professional occupational safety, health, wellbeing, and environment advice and support to various functions.
Ensure c2c remains compliant with Health & Safety legislation.
Act as the first point of contact with c2c functions for health, safety, and environmental advice and support.
Provide assurance to the Lead HSE Manager that occupational health, safety, and environmental arrangements comply with statutory legislation and industry standards.
Key Accountabilities:
- Prepare and undertake planned safety and environmental audits and inspections across c2c’s business to ensure compliance with operating licenses, Safety Management System, Industry Standards, and relevant legislation.
- Identify areas for improvement and best practices during inspections, and implement these as part of the safety plan.
- Provide advice and guidance on health, safety, and environment matters to all parts of Trenitalia c2c.
- Support statutory and regulatory compliance, including CDM and change validation, ensuring all works adhere to regulations and safety systems.
- Participate in developing and delivering emergency planning and incident response activities.
- Lead incident investigations and support processes to promote organizational learning and reduce risks.
- Advise on regulatory and internal requirements, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory liaison.
- Support the Lead HSE Manager in disseminating duties.
- Act as the main contact for assigned functions on health, safety, and environment matters, fostering strong relationships and managing risks.
Experience, Knowledge & Qualifications:
- NEBOSH Occupational Health and Safety Diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of Strategic Safety Management course (A.D. Little).
- Audit qualification (desirable).
- Environmental Management Diploma or equivalent, or working towards it.
- Detailed knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, Construction Legislation (CDM Regs), Fire Safety, and Environmental Legislation relevant to the rail industry.
Health and Safety Responsibilities:
- Follow health and safety instructions and directives.
- Properly use safety equipment and report any issues.
- Wear Personal Protective Equipment and report any losses.
- Avoid misuse or interference with safety provisions.
- Take necessary safety precautions and provide instructions if in a supervisory role.
- Report accidents, incidents, or near misses immediately, within 24 hours.
- Participate in incident investigations and safety training.
- Report hazards or unsafe conditions promptly and ensure they are addressed.
- Be aware of personal and site security.
- Comply with all safety policies, including the Safety and Environmental Policy and Drugs and Alcohol Policy.
- Be familiar with fire and emergency procedures.
- Lead by example in practicing safe work behaviors.
