Job summary

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is seeking a Health and Safety Officer to join the Corporate Health and Safety Team within Environment and Enforcement. You will provide practical, credible advice to managers and staff, ensuring our workplaces and operations are safe and compliant.

The role involves auditing depots/offices, assisting with accident investigations and delivering training to operational teams.

Qualifications

• Recent and relevant experience advising on a range of health and safety issues.
• Experience designing and delivering effective health and safety training.
• Experience carrying out health and safety audits and working on projects.
• Experience in local government or a unionised environment.
• NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma or equivalent, or willingness to obtain.
• A training qualification or willingness to obtain one.
• A good working knowledge of current health and safety legislation and its application.
• Excellent communication and negotiating skills with the ability to challenge practices.
• Ability to manage workload, prioritise and maintain accurate records.
• Willingness and ability to travel to sites across the borough.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned health and safety audits and inspections and report findings.
• Support managers with accident investigations and risk assessments (COSHH, DSEAR, health surveillance).
• Help duty holders close actions and monitor progress.
• Design, organise and deliver health and safety training and toolbox talks.
• Prepare reports on accidents, trends and health and safety issues for committees.
• Research and develop health and safety policies and procedures.
