Job summary

Summerhill View are seeking Health Care Assistants to join the team and deliver high-quality care to Service Users in line with regulatory standards. Full-time and part-time positions are available for day and night shifts at Summerhill View, Isle of Man.

Reporting to the Registered Manager, you will collaborate with a care team to implement Care Plans, support independence, and maintain dignity while safeguarding residents. Training and development opportunities are provided.

Qualifications

• No formal qualification required, but Level 2 Health and Social Care desirable or willingness to undertake.
• Care Certificate may be required if Level 2 not held.
• Level 3 RQF Medication Unit needed for medication tasks.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality care to Service Users as part of a care team.
• Promote and safeguard the welfare of Service Users.
• Support Service Users with personal care to enhance independence per Care Plans.
• Review progress and report deterioration in health.
• Follow infection prevention and control policies and procedures.
• Liaise with other agencies when required.
• Respect rights, dignity and privacy of Service Users.
• Attend supervision and appraisal meetings as required.

Description

Summerhill View are looking for Health Care Assistants to join the team and be responsible for providing high-quality care to Service Users, in-line with the highest regulatory standards.

We have Full-Time and Part-Time positions available for both day shifts and night shifts.

Key Responsibilities

General Responsibilities;-

• To work as part of a care team, providing high-quality care to Service Users.


• Promoting and Safeguarding the welfare of Service Users.


• To support the Service Users and to ensure personal care tasks are carried out to enhance and support the independence of the Service User, in-line with the Care Plan(s).


• Reviewing progress of care with the Service User and reporting any signs of deterioration in physical and mental health appropriately.


• Follow policies and procedures to maintain the highest standards of Infection Prevention and Control.


• Measuring effectiveness of Service User's Care Plan(s) with interdisciplinary team; providing care improvement recommendations when required.


• To carry out tasks in a way that will demonstrate respect for dignity and privacy of Service Users.


• To liaise with other agencies involved with Service Users when required.


• To respect the rights and choices of Service Users.


• Participate in audits, as requested and required.


• Act in accordance with all legal requirements; fostering treatment practices and standards of care that comply to the values of the Home, whilst observing governing regulations.


• To encourage positive social interaction with Service Users.


• Attend and participate in supervision and appraisal meetings where required.


• Comply with all respective company policies and procedures.

Personal Care Responsibilities;-

• Assisting Service Users to mobilise in accordance with best Moving and Handling practices and Care Plan(s).


• Assisting Service Users to maintain a good dietary intake of food and drinks, in accordance with training and Care Plan(s).


• Undertake roles in relation to medication administration (this is role specific and must be carried out at the discretion of management and in-line with training, local standards and company policy).


• Encourage Service Users to be as independent as possible with their personal care requirements.

Domestic Responsibilities;-

To undertake domestic tasks relevant to the role, at the discretion of management and in-line with documented Care Plans.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications;-

• No formal qualification required, but RQF Level 2 in Health and Social Care is desirable, or a willingness to undertake this qualification at the earliest possible convenience. For Health Care Assistants without RQF Level 2 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent), the Care Certificate will need to be completed.


• Level 3 RQF Medication Unit is required for Health Care Assistants looking to undertake tasks involving medication administration.


• Good literacy and numeracy skills.


• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.


• Organisational skills.


• Observational skills.


• Able to follow instructions and procedures.


• Able to work in a team, but also use own initiative.
