Job Description
Contract with a Local Authority Job Summary:
• The Care Assistant (Day Duty) role is vital in supporting the personal care and wellbeing of residents within a care home setting
• This position requires a compassionate, patient, and respectful individual who can promote independence, dignity, and comfort in all aspects of care
• Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Care Assistant will contribute to maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment, supporting residents with daily living tasks and participating in the social and emotional life of the home
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample): • Assist residents with personal care tasks including washing, dressing, toileting, and hygiene
• Support residents with mobility issues and physical disabilities, using appropriate aids as outlined in care plans
• Monitor residents’ health and report any changes in condition to senior staff
• Participate in the organisation and delivery of recreational and social activities to promote mental and emotional wellbeing
• Accompany residents on medical appointments and community outings
• Assist with mealtime routines including preparing light meals, helping residents eat, and ensuring dietary requirements are met
• Perform domestic duties such as changing beds, cleaning rooms, laundry, and maintaining hygiene standards
• Respond appropriately to dementia and behavioural challenges, using calm and practical intervention techniques
• Maintain confidentiality in all matters relating to residents and the operation of the home
• Complete care documentation, contribute to care planning, and participate in resident reviews and staff meetings
• Adhere to all relevant health & safety and food hygiene regulations
• Attend mandatory training and professional development sessions as required
• Provide comfort and emotional support to residents, including those receiving end-of-life care
• Be flexible in covering additional shifts when needed, including weekends and occasional night duties
Skills/Experience: • Previous experience in a care or health support role preferred but not essential
• Genuine commitment to the rights and dignity of older and/or disabled individuals
• Ability to carry out physically demanding tasks, including assisting with lifting and personal mobility
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Team player with the ability to work independently when required
• Sound understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, and personal/professional boundaries
• Willingness to engage in activities with residents to support emotional and social wellbeing
• Confidence in responding to challenging behaviour calmly and respectfully
• Reliable, flexible, and committed to providing consistent, high-quality care
• A good standard of personal hygiene and professional appearance
Additional Information: • Enhanced DBS check required
• Shift work will include weekends and may require flexibility to cover night duty or emergency absences
• Use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is required in line with infection control standards
Requirements
