Job summary

Abbey Healthcare in Hamilton is seeking a dedicated care worker to provide compassionate, person-centred support to residents on site. You will assist with daily activities, follow care plans, and document care with attention to confidentiality.

Role includes night duty wakeful shifts and ensuring safety in line with Health and Safety policies. Preference given to candidates with care sector experience and NVQ level 2 qualifications.

Qualifications

• Experience of working in the care sector preferred.
• NVQ level 2 desirable.
• An interest in caring for the service user group.

Responsibilities

• Understand and provide care for residents meeting individual needs.
• Understand effects of care on residents and families.
• Assist residents with daily care needs while promoting independence.
• Participate in activities.
• Promote and maintain residents' independence.
• Read care plans to ensure continuity of care.
• Complete and record daily notes and health/flow records.
• Respect residents' confidentiality and rights.
• Be aware of DoLs and capacity as applicable.
• Support with clothes, bed making, mobility, hygiene, meals, and observation of changes in condition.

Job Purpose

• To provide care for the service users respective of their individual needs and in a manner to enhance their quality of life

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Qualifications

• Experience of working in the Care Sector preferred
• NVQ level 2 desirable
• An interest in caring for the service user group

Principal Responsibilities

• To understand and provide care for residents that meets individual needs.
• To understand the effect on care on residents and families.
• To assist the resident in any area of their daily care needs which they would normally undertake themselves if they were able to do so whilst promoting independence wherever possible.
• To participate in activities
• To care for all residents needs as required with the aim of optimising their independence
• To read the Care Plans of each client to promote continuity of care.
• To complete and record documentation as required, to include, food/fluid intake/ changing position, applying topical creams, daily notes and notes of significant events.
• To understand the right of the individual to confidentiality
• To understand and be aware of Deprivation of Liberty (DoLs) - England and Adults with capacity Scotland.
• Within the Care Team, the following are examples of tasks which may be undertaken:
  • Care of clothes and personal belongings
  • Bed making - empty and occupied.
  • Moving and handling, dressing, and assisting residents in their daily hygiene and dressing needs.
  • Personal hygiene - Bathing, care of the eyes, mouth, hair, and nails
  • Care of skin and pressure areas
  • Assist with toilet requirements
  • Escorting residents
  • Helping to serve meals and drinks, assisting and feeding those residents whose need requires it
  • Recording any necessary individual information i.e. turn/tilt charts, fluid balance charts
  • Observing and reporting any changes in resident’s condition.
  • Be aware, understand individual care plans.
• Always Observe the Homes Health and Safety policy
• To report to Senior staff any hazard or unsafe equipment that may be injurious to the health and safety of staff, residents, and visitors
• To complete e learning and mandatory training, and other training as required
• To answer call bells and give assistance as required
• To be a valued member of the Key worker scheme
• To promote and market the home
• To read, understand and abide by all company policies and procedures
• To Attend meetings as required

Night Duty

This is a wakeful duty unless notified otherwise.

Health and Safety

Be conversant with and ensure all staff are aware of the requirements under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and of their compliance. Advise the Manager of any areas of concern.
