About Pathways to Work

The Barnsley Pathways to Work is a yearlong programme, potentially extendable, responding to the Pathways to Work Commission Report, which aims to answer:

‘How can Barnsley enable all its working-age residents, especially those further from the labour market, to find pathways to employment?’

SYHA has secured funding to support people in Barnsley who are economically inactive due to ill health or caring responsibilities, and young adults (18-24) at risk of not entering the labour market. Services may continue until 2029, subject to further funding.

We are proud that SYHA will play a key role in the work and health agenda to support communities across Barnsley in finding and thriving in employment.

Our support includes comprehensive health and work assessments, tailored to individual needs, helping individuals overcome health-related barriers to employment. We collaborate with mental and physical health teams, primary care networks, DWP, and VCSE referral partners to assist individuals facing workplace difficulties. Our services help individuals find, return to, stay in, or transition to new employment, providing in-work support and access to local resources for wellbeing and re-entry into the workforce.

Our Health at Work Coaches play a vital role by providing one-on-one coaching, promoting self-management strategies, signposting to relevant services, liaising with businesses, and exploring interventions to support employment and wellbeing goals using the participant spend budget.

We are a forward-thinking, values-driven housing association offering a flexible role within a caring, supportive team, along with excellent benefits.

This community-based role is based in Barnsley.

Who you are:

  • Customer-led and performance-focused
  • Organized, able to prioritize and observe effectively
  • Skilled at building rapport, empathizing, and using motivational interviewing and coaching techniques
  • Collaborative team player with stakeholders including health partners and employers
  • Practicing recovery-focused, strengths-based, non-judgemental, and co-production approaches

Who we are:

At South Yorkshire Housing Association, our purpose is for our customers to settle at home, live well, and realize their potential.

We serve diverse needs through housing, services, and opportunities accessible in homes, workplaces, and communities, including affordable housing.

Our employees enable us to deliver the best services and experiences. We value diversity and encourage applications from all backgrounds.

Please note: This advert may be removed before the closing date depending on response levels. We encourage early applications.

We are proud to be a Disability Confident Employer. Disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria will be guaranteed an interview opportunity. Applicants must disclose their disability on the application to be considered under this scheme.

Interview Date: Wednesday, 11th June 2025
