Looking to get involved in one of the largest construction projects in the South West?

We are currently recruiting for a Project Health & Safety Manager in Newton Abbot, South Devon, working on the expansion of HMP Channings Wood.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a diverse range of construction activities, including the development of two new fully electric, energy-efficient T60 houseblocks, along with various ancillary works.

Contract: Permanent, full-time

Responsibilities

The Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Manager will lead HSW efforts for the HMP Channings Wood project, acting as the primary contact for the project team, Kier Construction Western & Wales Construction & Engineering Director, and Regional HS&W Manager.

Key duties include:

• Serving as the main point of contact and conduit for the project team and regional management
• Developing and maintaining the project's HSW strategy aligned with business and project-specific plans
• Facilitating regional HSW communications, safety reports, lessons learned, and disseminating information through briefings and meetings
• Leading fortnightly HSW meetings to ensure coordination, communication, and implementation of safety actions
• Conducting site safety inspections and providing advice and guidance, recording findings using Novade
• Reviewing corrective actions from inspections and ensuring timely closure
• Advising teams on risk assessments, safe systems of work, and checking method statements
• Updating regional and project management on HSW issues and incidents

Requirements

This role is ideal if you have:

• NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) in occupational health and safety
• Significant experience leading construction H&S on major Tier one contracts in a senior management role
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder influence skills
• Self-motivated with excellent presentation skills and collaborative work approach
• Thorough knowledge of H&S legislation, regulations, and best practices
• Analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess hazards and develop solutions
• Experience managing HSW aspects of large construction projects
• Experience with behavioral change initiatives in H&S
