Health & Safety Manager - Groundworks & Civil Engineering
£50,000-£65,000 + Package
Liverpool (North West)

Our client is a well-established and rapidly expanding civil engineering and groundworks contractor operating across the North West. They have an extensive portfolio of active sites and a reputation for excellence, partnering with leading UK developers on residential and commercial schemes. The company invests in its people, processes, and plant, prioritizing health, safety, and quality.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to oversee all HSEQ initiatives across approximately 30 active construction sites, supporting over 200 operatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage health, safety, and environmental performance across sites in the North West.
• Coordinate training and competency requirements for site staff.
• Create and maintain HSE management systems and documentation aligned with HS(G)65.
• Develop site-specific risk assessments, method statements, and emergency plans.
• Advise the board on CDM regulations and legal compliance.
• Conduct audits, inspections, face-fit testing, fire safety sessions, and investigations.
• Promote a proactive safety culture through reporting and workforce engagement.
• Manage HSEQ data systems and dashboards.
• Oversee supply chain compliance via schemes like Constructionline and SSIP.
• Deliver subcontractor inductions and collaboration workshops.
• Manage plant and equipment training, implementing safety initiatives.
• Liaise with HSE, fire authorities, and stakeholders.
• Drive performance improvements to maintain contractor status.

Candidate Requirements

• NEBOSH Construction Certificate (minimum); NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent desirable.
• Strong knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations.
• Background in groundworks or civil engineering environments.
• Experience managing multi-site operations and large teams.
• Proven track record in HSE management systems.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Competent with HSE software and digital tools.
• SSSTS/SMSTS or similar qualifications are beneficial.
