Qualifications

  • NEBOSH certified and membership of IOSH are essential.
  • Knowledge of SHEQ legislation required.

Job description

Equans is looking for a Health and Safety Manager to join our team in Birmingham on a permanent basis. This is a full-time, onsite role working 37.5 hours per week. The position offers a competitive salary, a company car or allowance, bonus, and benefits package.

The purpose of the role is to provide guidance and leadership to ensure that contracts in the Technical Services (TS) division meet their statutory safety and environment requirements and to assist contracts in delivering responsible business initiatives.

This role will identify and deliver solutions to improve operational safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ) in contracts within the assigned TS area. Working closely with operational teams and the Responsible Business, CDM, and SHEQ Solutions teams, this role will ensure that EQUANS objectives and SHEQ culture are embedded within sites and contracts at a regional level.

What will you deliver?
  1. Management of SHEQ across the regional operational area to ensure all work complies with external and internal standards and guidelines.
  2. Collaborate with the Sr RB & SHEQ Managers, SHEQ Solutions BPs, RB, CDM, and Central SHEQ teams to maintain systems that meet statutory and company obligations.
  3. Ensure accurate reporting of data such as Near Misses, Accidents, RIDDORs, HiPos, LTIs, Incidents, and other social and environmental metrics.
  4. Establish SHEQ Action Plans for each contract with the Contract Director/Manager to promote safer workplaces and improve employee engagement and culture.
  5. Act on SHEQ audit findings, providing guidance and feedback to improve safety and quality.
  6. Promote and champion CSR and Responsible Business initiatives across contracts.
  7. Mentor Safety Ambassadors and Responsible Business Champions within contracts.
  8. Lead by example in upholding company values and objectives.
  9. Ensure each contract has a Training Matrix or Learning Management System to ensure appropriate training and qualifications.
  10. Lead investigations into incidents, ensuring detailed reports and root cause analysis.
  11. Conduct close-out meetings to ensure incidents are fully resolved and preventative measures are implemented.
  12. Support internal functions to manage risks effectively.
  13. Coach contracts on reporting tools and provide feedback for reporting improvements.
  14. Build strategic relationships with HSE/EHOs and industry forums.
  15. Support bid processes by demonstrating H&S commitment.
  16. Collaborate with other SHEQ teams to ensure a positive safety culture and compliance.
  17. Provide innovative solutions for continuous improvement in safety and responsible business.

This role requires a DBS Standard check, so the ability to pass is essential.
