Job summary

TeacherActive is supporting an independent SEMH specialist day school in Birmingham to appoint an experienced Head Teacher on a permanent basis. You will provide hands-on leadership, guiding pupils with SEMH, SEND and complex needs while fostering strong relationships with staff, parents and stakeholders.

Job description

TeacherActive is proud to be working with an independent SEMH specialist day school in Birmingham, catering for students across Key Stage 2 / KS2 to Key Stage 5 / KS5 with social, emotional and mental health difficulties and a range of complex additional needs. The school is part of a specialist organisation providing care and education support to children and young people with complex mental health disorders, learning disabilities, and emotional and behavioural difficulties, with a focus on achieving positive outcomes and nurturing independence.

The school is looking to appoint an experienced Head Teacher on a permanent basis, starting as soon as possible. The successful Head Teacher will provide strong, hands‑on leadership across the school, supporting pupils with SEMH, SEND and complex needs while building effective relationships with pupils, staff, parents and other key stakeholders.

The successful Head Teacher will have:

  • NPQH qualification
  • Relevant teaching and leadership qualifications
  • Previous experience in a senior leadership or Head Teacher role
  • Strong experience working with pupils with SEMH, SEND and complex needs
  • Excellent leadership and relationship-building skills
  • A hands‑on, pupil-focused approach to school leadership
