Job description

Please note that, effective from 1 April 2023, candidates applying for roles requiring PVG membership will need to cover the cost of the membership. This applies only to roles with a full-time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above, including teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £30,285 per annum / £16.64 per hour).

The Council will initially pay for the PVG membership cost—£18 for existing PVG scheme members or £59 for non-members—and this amount will be deducted from the employee’s first full month’s salary.

Job purpose/about the role

To lead and manage the affairs of the school, enabling the delivery of quality education through the appropriate involvement of pupils, staff, parents, multidisciplinary agencies, and the community. This will be done in accordance with the authority’s strategic plan, the school’s improvement/service plans, national frameworks, legislation, and agreements.

Requirements
  • Full GTC Registration (Scotland)
  • PVG scheme membership – Working with Children
  • Evidence of lifelong professional learning and participation in professional updates
  • Experience in leading and managing change and securing school improvement
  • Experience in a senior leadership role in an appropriate setting
  • Experience of senior management responsibilities in an educational environment
  • Knowledge of school improvement planning and resource allocation cycles
  • Knowledge of effective self-evaluation, quality improvement procedures, and reporting standards
  • Understanding of current education initiatives and priorities
  • Knowledge of the provisions of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 2003
  • Effective management of human resources, including industrial relations and health and safety, with a focus on performance improvement
  • Strategic, organizational, and motivational skills
  • High-level interpersonal skills for effective communication with colleagues, pupils, parents, and partners
  • Ability to promote equality and deliver inclusive opportunities
  • Capability to set high expectations, provide professional advice, and support colleagues’ professional development
