As a Head of Technical & NPD this pivotal role demands a customer-centric approach, blending robust technical expertise with exceptional project leadership. You'll be the primary technical interface for our valued clients, ensuring our products not only meet but exceed their quality, safety, and innovation expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Leadership & Compliance:
  • Oversee all aspects of food safety, quality assurance, and legal compliance across the manufacturing site.
  • Maintain and enhance our quality management systems, ensuring adherence to industry standards (e.g., BRCGS, HACCP, internal protocols).
  • Lead and prepare for all technical audits (internal and external), ensuring continuous readiness and improvement.
  • Drive a culture of quality and food safety throughout the entire operation.
  • Customer & Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Act as the senior technical point of contact for key customers, managing inquiries, addressing concerns, and fostering strong collaborative relationships.
  • Translate customer requirements and market trends into actionable technical and NPD strategies.
  • Represent the company's technical capabilities during customer visits and strategic discussions.
  • New Product Development (NPD) Project Leadership:
  • Lead the full NPD lifecycle, from initial concept generation and feasibility assessment through to successful launch.
  • Manage NPD projects, ensuring they meet technical specifications, budget, and timeline objectives.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with production, commercial, and purchasing teams to ensure seamless product realisation.
  • Drive innovation, identifying new ingredients, processes, and product opportunities.

Team Development & Strategy:

  • Manage, mentor, and develop the technical team, fostering a high-performing and engaged environment.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the business, particularly concerning product quality, innovation pipeline, and technical capabilities.
  • What You'll Bring:
    • A degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related discipline.
    • Significant experience in a senior technical role within food manufacturing, preferably within a family-sized or similarly agile business.
    • Proven track record of successful NPD project leadership, from concept to commercialisation.
    • Demonstrable experience in a customer-facing technical capacity, adept at building and maintaining strong client relationships.
    • In-depth knowledge of food safety standards, quality management systems (e.g., BRCGS Grade AA), and relevant food legislation.
    • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
    • Strong analytical abilities and a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
    • A genuine passion for food quality, innovation, and continuous improvement.
