Head of Sub-Section for EA Speciality Insurance

We are currently looking for a Head of Sub-Section EA Speciality Insurance to be based in London on a full-time basis, reporting into the Head of Data Delivery.

Successful candidates must be prepared to relocate to the specified job location in the job posting and will be employed directly under the hiring entity’s contractual terms.

This role will be part of the Enterprise Architecture Tower for Group Technology (IT 1.5), which defines and drives the overarching Enterprise Architecture (EA) strategy to support business agility and growth across Munich Re Group. The Tower develops multiyear roadmaps covering platforms, products, digital experience, and organizational design—balancing strategic alignment and transformation goals. It ensures consistent policy, monitors architecture delivery, and optimizes the application portfolio to reduce costs and accelerate innovation. Additionally, the Tower provides SDLC tools and processes that enhance global developer productivity in a secure, compliant, and standardized environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a diverse talented and motivated team to provide a comprehensive set of strategies for Global Specialty Insurance (GSI).
  • Assess current state, risks and technical viability of the application portfolio, including how well it meets business needs, and determine the options for remediation and manage Transformation Roadmap
  • Plan & Align Cluster Plans for our App Portfolio based on Technology Fitness / Business Value Analysis
  • Govern the transformation of our Application Portfolio Management & Technology Stacks globally
  • Assess and cluster the application portfolio, define and manage roadmap for transformation, setup migration & transformation projects, provide relevant data / TCO to calculate ROI – Business Cases and provide project charters
  • Define Roadmaps for Application Portfolio based on Technology Strategy and Reference Architectures
  • Reduce technical complexity, App footprint, drive standardization and innovation
  • Identify vendors, methodologies and platforms for reliable, serviceable and highly available applications.
  • Align strategies, approaches and priorities with business peers and communicate within the diverse internal team.
  • Build and support an inclusive team of Enterprise Architects, fostering collaboration, setting priorities, and ensuring a balanced workload for all team members
  • Align strategies, approaches, and priorities with business peers, ensuring clear and inclusive communication across the team

Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science / Mathematics / Information Systems
  • Advanced / Graduate degree in any of the above or Master of Business Administration preferred
  • 10+ years Architecture experience in large Information Systems and Technology organizations, preferably in the Financial Services vertical (banking, insurance, general financial services).
  • Strong technical proficiency across multiple capabilities relevant to the role.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging for various audiences, including company-wide and C-level stakeholders
  • Ability to understand and navigate complex organizational dynamics while guiding the team in balancing competing objectives
  • Pronounced analytical and conceptual capabilities coupled with the ability to present complex situations in a clear and precise manner3+ years of professional background as an application developer in respective areas
