Job Title: Head of Structured Cabling – Data Centre Projects

Location: London - Hybrid

Reports To: Director of Technical Services

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Overview:

Our client is seeking an experienced and technically proficient Head of Structured Cabling to lead design, deployment, and quality assurance of structured cabling systems in high-performance data centre projects. This role is key to ensuring the integrity, reliability, and scalability of the digital infrastructure supporting mission-critical operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Oversight & Delivery

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of structured cabling systems on hyperscale and enterprise data centre projects.
  • Define cabling strategy, architecture, and standards aligned with industry best practices (TIA/EIA, BICSI).
  • Manage scope, budget, schedule, and quality across multiple projects.

Design & Technical Leadership

  • Oversee development of cabling design packages, including backbone, horizontal, and containment layouts.
  • Review and approve design documentation such as floor plans, rack layouts, diagrams, and bill of materials.
  • Ensure compliance with client requirements, technical specifications, and standards.

Team & Contractor Management

  • Lead internal engineering teams, design consultants, and installation contractors.
  • Evaluate and select vendors and technologies based on performance, scalability, and lifecycle costs.
  • Manage site QA/QC processes including testing, labeling, and certification.

Project Interface & Coordination

  • Act as primary contact for structured cabling with clients and contractors.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, security, and IT teams for seamless integration.
  • Support commissioning, handover, and operations with documentation and walkthroughs.
  • Monitor emerging technologies (e.g., high-density fiber, MPO/MTP systems) and implement innovations.
  • Develop and maintain cabling standards for internal and external teams.
  • Lead lessons learned and post-project reviews for continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in structured cabling design and delivery, with 5+ years in leadership.
  • Proven track record in large-scale data centres or mission-critical environments.
  • Deep knowledge of standards such as ANSI/TIA-568, TIA-942, ISO/IEC 11801, and BICSI.
  • Strong experience with fiber optic and copper cabling systems, management, pathways, and containment.
  • Skilled in interpreting CAD drawings, cable schedules, and rack layouts.
