Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking a Head of Science for a high-performing secondary school in Hampshire, starting January. This full-time, permanent role leads Biology, Chemistry and Physics across Key Stages 3–5 and shapes the science curriculum and assessment framework.

You will work with SLT to drive teaching standards, manage budgets, and expand STEM opportunities through outreach and student initiatives. A strong leadership track record is essential.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or recognized UK credentials (PGCE / SCITT).
• Honours degree in Biology, Chemistry or Physics.
• Proven track record of strong GCSE and A-Level outcomes plus leadership.
• Knowledge of CLEAPSS safety standards and secondary science specs.
• Active DBS Update Service or willingness to apply.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction and curriculum leadership across Key Stage 3, GCSE, and A-Level Science subjects
• Line-manage, mentor, and evaluate teaching staff and laboratory technicians across the faculty
• Oversee CLEAPSS health and safety compliance, laboratory maintenance, and chemical safety protocols
• Track student performance, implement intervention strategies, and maintain strong GCSE and A-Level outcomes
• Organize extra-curricular STEM initiatives, science fairs, and university outreach programs
• Serve as a senior subject expert on the school’s academic leadership group
