Our client, a well-recognised professional membership body with over 20,000 members worldwide, is currently seeking to appoint a Head of Public Affairs.

Key Responsibilities

The Head of Public Affairs is a new role designed to support the planning and delivery of the Membership Association's outreach to stakeholders of the quality profession and promote the social and commercial value of good quality management. This role is key to delivering our mission and strategy by developing relationships with allied quality bodies, industry bodies, and allied professions, and influencing quality elements of industrial and public policy. The role emphasizes the importance of operational governance, assurance, and improvement for organisations, sectors, and the economy.

Responsibilities

Planning:

  • Support the management team in planning the external affairs strategy to enhance our reputation and influence among target audiences, including government decision-makers, employers, trade bodies, educational institutions, and professional bodies.
  • Contribute to our sustainability strategy, especially supporting developing economies.

Delivery:

  • Manage external environmental scanning processes.
  • Deliver and follow up on the annual Council Meeting with the CEO, Board Chair, and Council Chair.
  • Lead policy and external affairs plans to achieve objectives.
  • Develop and manage relationships with quality bodies, industry bodies, partner organizations, and stakeholders.
  • Write compelling content tailored to objectives and stakeholders.
  • Represent the Membership Association at relevant industry, professional, and quality infrastructure events and forums.
  • Provide briefing materials for staff and volunteers involved in external representation.
  • Commission research to support external affairs plans as needed.

Monitoring:

  • Advise the CEO and senior management on external environmental factors affecting the Membership Association and the quality profession, identifying opportunities and recommending responses.
  • Monitor and report on progress towards external affairs objectives, lessons learned, and future plans.

Candidate Profile

  • Strong understanding and commitment to our values and vision.
  • Proven external affairs professional with successful experience in communications and stakeholder engagement.
  • Track record of building and managing stakeholder networks across government, education, industry, and professional sectors.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented, flexible, and capable of problem-solving with diverse individuals.
  • Ideally well-connected and credible, capable of strengthening strategic relationships within policy and public affairs networks.
