Job summary

Building Careers UK is seeking an experienced Projects Director / Head of Projects to lead the successful delivery of major projects as a senior leader in the business.

The role requires a strong HVAC / mechanical background and a proven track record delivering complex projects from inception through to completion, with emphasis on safety, quality, time and budget.

Technical HVAC / Mechanical Background

Our client is looking to appoint an experienced Projects Director / Head of Projects to lead and oversee the successful delivery of major projects across the business.

This is a senior leadership position, ideally suited to an experienced project professional with a strong technical HVAC / mechanical engineering background and a proven track record of managing complex projects from inception through to completion.

The Role

As Projects Director / Head of Projects, you will take overall responsibility for the effective delivery of projects, providing strategic leadership while ensuring programmes are delivered safely, efficiently, commercially and to the highest technical standards.

You will lead project teams, manage key client and stakeholder relationships, oversee budgets and programmes, and drive continuous improvement across project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and direction across the project function.
• Take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of multiple projects.
• Lead, develop and mentor project management and technical teams.
• Manage project budgets, programmes, resources and commercial performance.
• Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors and key stakeholders.
• Ensure projects are delivered in line with contractual, technical, quality and H&S requirements.
• Identify and manage project risks, opportunities and commercial issues.
• Oversee project planning, procurement, installation, commissioning and handover.
• Drive consistent project management processes and best practice across the business.
• Provide regular project performance updates to senior management/directors.
• Support business development, tenders and client presentations where required.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• Significant experience in a senior project management / project leadership position.
• A strong technical background in HVAC, mechanical building services or M&E.
• Proven experience managing complex, high-value projects.
• Strong commercial and financial awareness, including budget and cost control.
• Excellent leadership and people-management skills.
• The ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management abilities.
• A track record of delivering projects safely, on time and within budget.
• Relevant technical or project management qualifications would be advantageous.
