Job description

We’re Octopus Legacy: one of the fastest growing tech companies in the country, part of the UK’s most exciting and best-trusted group (you may have heard of some of our sister companies…) and we have a mission.

We’re on a path to scale, aiming to become a household name while transforming a long-established industry and helping our customers prepare for, and find support after, death.

But we can’t do it alone, and that’s why we’re assembling a team of top performers to build with us.

Ready to be part of something big?

The Role

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Head of Product to lead our product organisation through an exciting phase of growth and innovation. As our first Head of Product, reporting to our Founder, you will play a pivotal role in defining and executing our product vision, ensuring alignment with broader business objectives. This role requires a leader who embodies our company values of Optimism, Customer First, and Hard Work, fostering a culture of innovation, ownership, and customer-centricity.

You will be responsible for scaling our product team, developing high-impact product strategies, and collaborating closely with the engineering team and executive leadership to drive product growth. This role is ideal for a hands-on, metrics-driven leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to make a lasting impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and drive the product vision, mission, and strategy in alignment with company objectives. Prioritise initiatives to maximise impact while balancing growth, user experience, and long-term sustainability. Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing product team. Establish clear career paths, promote best practices in product management, and cultivate a collaborative, resilient culture.
  • Serve as a key voice in leadership discussions, ensuring product strategy aligns with business goals. Partner with Engineering, Marketing, Sales, and Operations to drive cross-functional success and execution.
  • Set the standard for deep customer understanding within the product organisation. Develop frameworks to gather, analyze, and act on customer insights, ensuring user needs remain central to decision-making.
  • Own key product KPIs, including conversion rates, user engagement, and retention. Leverage data to optimise performance, drive strategic growth, and ensure long-term product success.
  • Provide clear direction and alignment during periods of change and growth. Navigate ambiguity, drive stakeholder buy-in, and communicate changes effectively, always prioritizing customer impact.

Who Are You?

  • 7+ years of product management experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role at a high-growth company.
  • Proven ability to define and execute product strategy while aligning with business objectives.
  • Experience leading and scaling product teams, fostering career growth, and driving team engagement.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence executives and cross-functional partners.
  • An interest in leveraging AI to solve complex problems, collaborating with AI and innovation teams to explore new opportunities and drive cutting-edge product development.
  • Demonstrated success in a metrics-driven product environment, using data to inform decision-making and measure impact.
  • A customer-first mindset, ensuring product decisions prioritise user needs and business outcomes.
  • Highly adaptable, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ever-evolving startup or growth-stage environment.

Our Mission

When people think about planning for death they think about wills, life insurance and funerals. We take these cold processes and turn them into something more human. Share more than money: leave voice notes, music, recipes. Shape a legacy that connects you while you're here. And after you're gone.

Founded by Sam after his mum died suddenly, we’re a group of people who work in death because we’ve been affected by it. We know the difference a good plan makes, and what it’s like when there isn’t one.

Death can come between us, leave mess, legal fees, frustration. But it can also make us stronger. We see a world where people talk openly about death, and work out the real meaning of legacy, one that connects to them. We’re here to make that world happen.

  • Hybrid working (London Bridge).
  • Flexible holiday + extra day off for your Birthday.
  • Work from anywhere in the world for up to 4 weeks per year.
  • Vitality Health & Life Insurance.
  • Enhanced parental leave.
  • Free Will & LPAs + discounts on other Octopus services.
  • Cycle to Work Scheme and access to the Electric Vehicle (EV) Salary Sacrifice Scheme.
  • Octopus Giving: we match any charitable fundraising that you do up to £500.
  • Breakfast every day, snacks and wellness activities.

We know that to be truly innovative, we need to have a diverse team around us. That is why Octopus Legacy is committed to creating an inclusive environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
