Job description

About:Global Marine Group is a leading independent provider of submarine cable solutions offering a broad range of services including consultancy, installation and maintenance covering the lifespan of a submarine cable system and delivered to customers worldwide.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head of Procurement with a proven background in the marine industry. The ideal candidate will hold a MCIPS qualification and demonstrate strong leadership and strategic procurement capabilities within a maritime environment.

Purpose:Working across the Group, your role will be to lead the Procurement Team in delivering both leadership and strategic direction for global procurement and supply chain activities, while ensuring compliance with all legal and legislative requirements. You will be responsible for driving ambitious and cutting-edge strategic development plans for the procurement service, identifying opportunities to unlock significant savings without compromising on quality, and, where possible, further enhancing it.

The successful candidate will ideally have a strong background in maritime procurement and must demonstrate proven leadership in developing teams capable of managing high-profile procurement exercises. You will be expected to deliver value for money and efficiency savings across a complex global organisation.Reporting to the CFO, you will work in close collaboration with Finance, Operations, Project teams, and other Head Office departments to instil efficient, best practice purchasing and procurement processes throughout the business. Occasional travel to international sites will be required.

Key Deliverables:

  • Responsible for ensuring that the department is committed to and conforms to quality, safety, and corporate responsibility systems and procedures as documented across the Group.
  • Setting, maintaining and improving procurement standards and policies across the Group, in accordance with established industry standards, practices or guidelines.
  • Creating and driving a robust procurement plan across the Group.
  • Accountable for the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the global supply chain including import/export, quality, cost of delivery, supplier risk management, sub-contracting and continuous improvements.
  • Establish a global supply chain strategy, aligned with the Group’s 5 year Business Plan.
  • Strong commercial negotiation skills, including the ability to reduce commercial risk with our supply chain.
  • Establishes and maintains relevant KPI's, appropriate scorecards, an effective escalation matrix, and an appropriate cadence of strategic and tactical business reviews in coordination with the broader Group strategy creating transparency, predictability, and accountability.
  • As a key member of the leadership team, foster a collaborative and proactive approach, and recommend and implement solutions to company issues to drive performance enabling the company to meet and exceed its short-term and long-term objectives.
  • Develop clear and effective performance metrics for the Group, as well as individuals, measuring effectiveness; use metric trends and data to drive the business and decisions therein.
  • Managing, influencing and upskilling a globally dispersed team including direct reports, driving high efficiency and value output. Foster and support a “one team” culture.
  • Responsible for the vendor supply base, creation of an approved suppliers list and management of both – negotiating favourable commercial terms, volume discounts and long-term contracts.
  • Ensure that the monitoring of existing vendors and selection of new vendors is completed, taking into account risk, criticality to the business, performance and cost.
  • Leading in supplier dispute resolution activities or having a thorough input into the dispute resolution activity.
Required:Fully qualified Procurement professional via MCIPS, with significant post qualification experience.Demonstrable experience of managing procurement teams covering international operations.Strong working knowledge of contract terms, conditions and global supplier management.Ability to manage RFQ, ITT, evaluation procedures, sealed bid opening through to contract award and conducting supplier de-briefs.Proven strategic sourcing, influence and commercial negotiation skills is paramount.Experience of leading organisational change and implementing new procedures.Self starter and ability to manage demanding workload with multiple conflicting and changeable priorities in a fast-paced environment.Excellent ability to communicate effectively and influence stakeholders at all levels in the business.Strong emotional intelligence.Good working knowledge of all 'Microsoft' applications: particularly PowerPoint, Excel and SharePoint.A dynamic individual, being a good team player that is flexible and can function well under pressure.Ability to train teams in the roll out of new processes, procedures and work instructions across the Group.IdealBackground in Marine / engineering / offshore sector experience would be strongly preferred.Experience in placement of contract solutions for subsea works, including contracting structures (BIMCO, NEC, other).Working on-site for 3 days a week at one of the UK office locations (Chelmsford - Head Office, Washington, Portsmouth) with 2 other days working from home.To ensure our organisation complies with immigration rules, all candidates must provide evidence of their Right to Work in the UK when applying.
