Job description

Head of Planning & Forecasting Edinburgh or London (Hybrid) Permanent £Competitive + excellent benefits + career progression

FNZ is seeking a Head of Planning & Forecasting to join our FP&A Finance team and lead financial planning across the organisation. This is a senior finance leadership opportunity with responsibility for ensuring FNZ has a clear, robust and forward-looking view of financial performance.

The Opportunity

You’ll lead the annual budget, rolling forecasts, long‑range planning and scenario analysis, partnering closely with senior stakeholders across Finance, Commercial, Functions and Executive leadership. Combining strategic thinking with deep FP&A expertise, you’ll strengthen financial planning and decision‑making, challenge assumptions, and ensure financial plans are closely connected to FNZ’s strategic and commercial priorities.

As Head of Planning, you’ll take ownership of the financial planning cycle within FP&A, leading budgeting, forecasting and long‑range planning across the business. You’ll establish an integrated approach to planning across P&L, balance sheet, cash flow and operational drivers, while providing senior management, Executive and Board‑level audiences with clear analysis and actionable financial insight. You’ll also lead and develop the planning team and play a key role in transforming FNZ’s planning capabilities, including leading the implementation and ongoing development of Anaplan.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced FP&A leader to combine strategic planning, senior business partnering, transformation and people leadership in a complex global organisation.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Financial Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Leading FNZ’s annual budgeting, forecasting and long‑range planning processes, ensuring outputs are accurate, timely and aligned with strategic priorities
  • Developing an integrated planning approach across P&L, balance sheet, cash flow and key operational drivers
  • Owning the planning timetable, governance, assumptions and review processes, ensuring clear accountability across Finance and the wider business
  • Driving improvements in forecast accuracy, planning efficiency and financial transparency
  • Ensuring planning activities provide a robust and forward‑looking view of financial performance
  • Strategic Analysis & Decision Support: Providing clear analysis of forecasts, plans and financial assumptions, identifying key trends, risks, opportunities and business drivers
  • Translating complex financial information into concise, actionable recommendations for senior management, Executive and Board‑level audiences
  • Leading scenario modelling and sensitivity analysis to help the organisation understand potential financial outcomes
  • Providing management information and financial insight to support strategic initiatives, investment decisions and transformation programmes
  • Constructively challenging financial assumptions and commercial plans to improve decision‑making and financial outcomes
  • Senior Business Partnering: Partnering with senior business leaders to embed financial discipline and improve the quality of financial planning
  • Acting as a trusted adviser to Finance leadership, providing independent challenge on financial outlook, planning assumptions and strategic choices
  • Building strong relationships across Finance Business Partnering, Controllership, Treasury, Strategy and Operational teams
  • Presenting complex planning outputs clearly and confidently to senior stakeholders
  • Connecting financial planning with FNZ’s wider strategic and commercial priorities
  • Leadership, Systems & Continuous Improvement: Leading, coaching and developing a high‑performing planning team, setting clear expectations and strengthening analytical capability
  • Improving planning processes, models and templates to reduce manual effort and increase the quality of insight
  • Leading the implementation, embedding and ongoing development of Anaplan as FNZ’s new planning system
  • Ensuring Anaplan supports robust budgeting, forecasting, long‑range planning, scenario modelling and business partnering
  • Promoting a culture of accuracy, accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement across FP&A
What We’re Looking For
  • Qualified accountant or finance professional, ideally ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent
  • Substantial experience across FP&A, financial planning, commercial finance or finance business partnering
  • Proven experience leading budgeting, forecasting and long‑range planning within a complex or fast‑paced organisation
  • Strong track record of partnering with senior stakeholders and influencing commercial decision‑making
  • Experience managing, developing and motivating finance teams
  • Advanced financial modelling and analytical capability
  • Strong Excel skills and experience working with planning, ERP, EPM or BI tools
  • Strong understanding of P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, working capital and key financial performance drivers
  • Financial Services or Technology experience would be advantageous
  • Personal Attributes: Strategic and commercially minded, with the ability to connect financial plans to wider business priorities
  • An excellent communicator who can simplify complex financial information for non‑finance audiences
  • A confident and credible influencer who is comfortable constructively challenging senior stakeholders
  • Highly analytical and detail‑oriented, with the ability to operate effectively through ambiguity
  • A strong people leader focused on developing talent and building team effectiveness
  • Proactive and outcome‑focused, with the ability to operate at pace while maintaining high standards of control and accuracy
What You’ll Need to Succeed at FNZ
  • Strong strategic, commercial and financial judgement
  • The ability to translate sophisticated financial analysis into clear recommendations and business decisions
  • Confidence operating with Executive and senior leadership stakeholders
  • Strong leadership skills and a commitment to developing high‑performing teams
  • The ability to challenge assumptions constructively and influence strategic decisions
  • Deep understanding of financial planning, forecasting and performance drivers
  • A continuous‑improvement mindset with the ability to transform planning processes and systems
  • The ability to operate effectively across multiple workstreams, prioritising competing demands and adapting quickly to changing business requirements
Why Join FNZ?
