Head of Operations – Infrastructure & Project Delivery

An opportunity to take operational ownership of a growing business in the sustainable infrastructure sector.

MRG is partnering with a rapidly expanding, entrepreneurial business in the infrastructure sector to appoint a senior operational leader who will play a pivotal role in its next phase of growth.

With an expanding portfolio of projects across the UK and significant opportunities within the utilities and infrastructure sectors, this appointment will be instrumental in ensuring its operational capabilities, resources and delivery structures can support its future ambitions.

We are seeking an experienced Head of Operations who can take ownership of day-to-day operational performance while developing the infrastructure, processes and teams required to support an increasingly complex project portfolio.

Working closely with senior leadership, you will oversee the coordination of multiple projects, delivery teams and external partners, ensuring that resources are deployed effectively, programmes remain on track and commercial commitments are achieved.

You will establish robust operational controls, improve reporting and forecasting, and develop clear accountability across the business. With a focus on efficiency, quality and commercial performance, you will identify opportunities to improve delivery methods, manage risk and strengthen the organisation's ability to respond to increasing demand.

Beyond day-to-day operations, you will play a central role in preparing the business for further expansion. This will involve assessing future capacity requirements, developing scalable delivery models and supporting the growth of internal teams and external contractor relationships.

About you

To be considered for this opportunity, you will need to demonstrate:

• Significant operational leadership experience within construction, infrastructure, utilities, engineering services or a closely related contracting environment.
• A proven track record of managing complex project portfolios across multiple locations, coordinating internal teams, subcontractors and external delivery partners.
• Experience developing and implementing operational systems, reporting structures and processes that improve performance, efficiency and accountability.
• Demonstrable experience supporting business growth, including developing operational capacity, resources and organisational structures to meet increasing demand.
• Strong people leadership skills, with the ability to engage technical and operational teams, influence senior stakeholders and implement change collaboratively.
• Commercial awareness, with a sound understanding of project profitability, margins, cash flow, resource allocation and operational risk.

You will be a pragmatic and commercially minded leader who combines strategic oversight with a willingness to remain closely involved in operational delivery. You will understand the realities of managing live projects, balancing competing priorities and ensuring that teams have the resources and support needed to succeed.
