A leading healthcare organization in England seeks a Head of Midwifery to manage and improve midwifery services across multiple hospital sites. The role requires strong leadership skills, significant experience in clinical governance, and the ability to collaborate with senior leadership teams. Weare looking to appoint a second highly motivated, inspirational, midwiferyleader to our Head of Midwifery role within the Womens CSU.
Apart of our perinatal improvement journey, we are strengthening ourleadership capacity, this post is an addition to the new leadership team andwill work with the existing head of midwifery to focus upon the quality andgovernance agenda.
Therole requires a highly visible, professional leader who will work inpartnership with the existing Head of Midwifery and senior leadership team to improve quality and safety, and influence within the CSU, across the widerorganisation and externally with stakeholders. The post holder will lead on all aspects of maternity governance and quality in addition to the day-to-daymanagement of the service.
Youwill have considerable senior operational experience and will have the ability to motivate and lead our midwifery workforce on our improvementjourney in a large and complex service across 2 acute sites. An excellentteam player, you will work closely with the multi-professional clinicalgroups and the leadership teams within the Maternity and Gynaecology units.

JOBPURPOSE/SUMMARY
Manageriallyaccountable to the Clinical Director and professionally accountable to theDirector of Midwifery the Head of Midwifery has overall responsibility forthe leadership and management of nursing and midwifery across the ClinicalService Units (CSU). This includes the line management responsibilities forMatrons within the CSU and the management of specific clinicalservices/areas.
Theyare the named and identified lead for specific issues relating to midwiferypractice in the Trust and midwifery and nursing practice within the CSU andwill be one of the most senior midwives within the CSU triumvirate.
Theyare responsible for decision making where practice or service delivery issuescross matron specialities or when cross speciality leadership is required.The Head of Midwifery will establish and foster an effective workingrelationship with the CSU Clinical Director and General Manager to leadimprovement in midwifery care, service delivery and the achievement oforganisational priorities within the CSU. The Head of Midwifery will deputisefor the Clinical Director on an as required basis.
TheHead of Midwifery has overall responsibility for the delivery of safe,clinically and cost effective and compassionate midwifery care within the CSUand provides assurance evidence to the Director of Midwifery (and Chief Nurseregarding compliance against all appropriate professional, organisational andnational compliance standards.
TheHead of Midwifery will be responsible for the care and professional practicedelivered within a significantly large CSU. This would equate to anursing/midwifery workforce of more than 600 whole time equivalent staff andcould cover more than one hospital site.
However,the area of responsibility may be smaller in size and volume if there is arequirement for large scale change of service or that the complexities of theservice are significant. Complexities of the service may come from thenational profile that the speciality attracts or the consistent need toengage and work with stakeholders/agencies outside of the organisation.
